The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

This is a resin casting (obviously). It was cast by Matsuo and is
from the same moulds as the ones he sold to the BSG production.

Mine differs from the actual production pistol in a couple ways.

1) It has a spring loaded trigger. I had to cut a hole through the
resin of the top of the grip section (when the slide was removed)
and custom fit a casting of the 5-7 trigger in there. It works pretty
well.

2) There Isn't a drop of glue or epoxy on my pistol. Unlike the
screen used (and real steel) I have what looks like a windage
adjustment screw on the rear sight. This is in fact a
screw that bolts the slide to the grip frame. The grenade launcher
section is also held in place by 2 thin screws drilled down through
the mount rail from inside.

3) Grip paint. Matsuo did several layers of different shades of
brown, I only had access to the one type. It was kind of tacky
feeling afterwards (so were the selector levers), so I gave it a
dusting of clear semi-matte sprat to seal it in.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The only thing
that would be better was if it was an accurate airsoft version. :)

And we have pics...

Awesome. What was the backstory on the pistols from the earlier seasons? Remember they had a snub nose revolver in a shell Matt was working on?
Did they do focus groups or was it just to mess up us prop geeks?

I think the main thing was that the 5.7 is easier to reload than the revolver with the shell on it.

I am happy to say that I am the proud owner of one of Matts BSG mini series blasters, and it is awesome. It is built around a revolver frame, and seems heavily Blade Runner inspired.

Yep, from all reports they used a metal CNCed bolt-on clamshell shroud on
the Miniseries/Season 1 pistols, and they enclosed a short barrel
Smith & Wesson revolver.

Matt's Season 1 pistol kit used a Colt python because that's what
he had on hand at the time.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to put an airsoft python in my kit
or not. I'm all in favor of moving parts and clicky bits, but the price
of the pythons is a bit on the high side for something that I'll likely
never skirmish with, and these days I have to make careful
decisions where my toy money goes. :)
