The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

No other cast members except Cynthia Scott for this year according to Pat Henry. HOWEVER he did say 'no cast reunion'. We ay get one or two more, i'll ask.

Cynthia will be signing Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday
No word on if pictures will be provided but I'm pretty sure her agent will arrange something.

If he could arrange a photo of her in her USCM uniform, it would be better than the stock publicity still a lot of the agencies use.

But then I'm biased. ;)

Tony(andCherie),

Sorry to hear about the disappointments for Dragon Con this year. My humble advice is, look forward to a possibly positive 25th anniversary in 2011. Perhaps the extra 5 years' time to prepare would be ideal.

I don't know how good / close of a relationship you've developed with the USCM celebrity cast but the extra time may help you improve the relations in time for 2011.

Please let me know if I can help in any way toward that end. I can't guarantee I'd be able to make Dragon Con in 2011 myself but I am willing to help make it happen for the other USCMers & other ALIENS LEGACY board members.

Best wishes,
Jason

Actually Tony, what I meant was a publicity still of her in her "Aliens" uniform/costume, as opposed to a standard glamour shot many agents use. :)

I'd NEVER presume to ask somone to wear our garb to an event, any more than I'd ask Peter Mayhew to wear a wookie suit to a Star Wars event. :LOL

I'm moving this thread to the ready line as it may be of interest to other board members attending DC.

<< Hello Tony,
I bet you thought that you would never hear back on this one.
We did investigate the idea of a Aliens' reunion.
Between what we felt were excessive actor demands and actors working, we have given up for this year.
Thank you for your interest.

No sir, that's shooting par for the hole, i.e. you can't expect to do better (though you can always hope).

IMO -- Money talks.Talk does not. You can't make decisions and plans with other peeps' money (in this case DC organizers'). If you wanted Al to fly across the pond .. there's the flight ticket round trip (may be designated class), meals & accomdation, and appearance fee, unless he happens to live in Georgia, then it would have just been the appearance fee. Hence they were right to say actor demands were excessive (given their typical average budget per).

It’s strange that the Sarge is not going now… while he was over here at Leicester it was apparently all set, no doubt! He was ravening about meeting all you guys. Maybe the shock of being made a UKCM member has put him off!

Could be worth pushing the D-Con organisers for a 21st Anniversary cast reunion as there are faint rumblings from this side of the pond that there MAY be an invasion of UKCM marines at D-Con 2007!!!

You have been warned!

If that should materialize ..

I would suggest taking the bull by the horns this time around, and none of this high octane enthusiasm and empty calories shot in the dark approach.

Organize with Al & perhaps one other cast (take your pick) on a real budget this time by getting minimum numbers of what it would take to get them to the event.

Then, promote it as a pre-sold dinner with A2 cast on a per plate cost basis.

It might wind up costing like $100-150 or more!/plate deal, but if you meet the minimum .. they'll(or he'll) be there.

What can be done once the deal is sealed is to approach DC then and "re-sell" the actors' appearences at the Con where a portion of the pre-paid cost can be re-capture. If you can get the actors/agents to agree to an arrangement like that.
It would make sense to assume once youhave locked up the actors to be in Atlanta that DC would be interested, especially if it falls within their budget.

Otherwise -- it would just be a private dinner event between fans & actors.

IMO -- this is a much more realistic way because it puts the control back in manageable hands with your own money on the line rather than leave it to a prayer and hope to ride on the coat tail of someone else's money to realize your goals.

@Noeland -- because you were sold on smoke/mirrors and song/dance.

You mentioned you worked F&B .. you should be familiar with food costs and banquets. Pending the menu & venue .. it should run from $25-35 on up for a decent dinner (say 3 courses), figuring you have atleast 25-30 persons (or more). So, the idea is the rest would go towards the guest(s) fees including all expenses. If the billing out component can be done where actors can be booked out to DC, you're looking at either reducing your per plate cost or having better food. On the average it would increase your DC expense by that estimated amount (100-150 pending how many fans sign up), but compare your event experience with & without stars from A2 .. well, it's up to each fan to determine the worthwhile.

I can't say that I'd be willing to spend $100 to meet any of the actors from Aliens. But where did this whole dinner thing come from anyway? Was there a dinner planned for this year? I apologize if I missed something. I do that some times.

I'm with Dom on this one, even if Cameron himself were there, I'm way more excited to meet you guys from the boards anyway. We'll make it an event because we're there, and this film is important to us. :)

If I were well off, hell, I'd pay for AL to fly over and put him up in a hotel, and get him a hooker, and make sure he's well taken care of. No sweat.

.... it came from the empty dark & dreary cob web filled corridors of my twisted mind. I'm posing the idea to you -- now that you all see that enthusiasm alone despite its built-in feel good factor does not yield the desired results after all is said & done. Then the thought came: What can ? And what price is it worth to you ?? This is like a fund-rasier type of event except that it's not going towards charity or political campaigns. But if there are people out there who are willing to pay $1,000 to $15,000 per plate of dinner to contribute campaign funds to Clinton or Bush and have their pictures taken with ... is it worth $100 to have yours taken with Al & chew the fat with him for an evening ? If enough people thinks it is -- then the idea works.

Let's make sure that if a cast member read ths board, they would want to meet us. Dcon is so much fun, a few celebs don't really make a difference. Yes, the big excitement is meeting people in person, that you may have known online for years. However, if a celeb makes the trip, we should do our best to make them feel welcome.

After finding out that only ONE of the actors is even going to try and make this Dcon really put a bur under my saddle. After all the work Tony went through to try and get them to sing up too!

I know nothing is ever written in stone with these cons, and that the actors have no obligation to the fans to show up.

All of us should keep in mind that this should be more of an opportunity to meet each other, and not let the whole thing revolve around who's going to be there actor wise.

One actor...sheesh.

Well, Jenette expressed an interest in attending with her family as it was, perhaps she'd be open to doing a signing for dinner/beer money. :)

I tend to think it was more of a lack of follow-through on the part of the DC staff. :(

They just had other priorities...like booking actors from Star Trek fanfilms. :o
