The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The UKCM were totally professional and worked your butts off. Guys it was an honour doing this event with you, I loved the whole keeping the Stormtroopers out  . Wish I could of chatted with some of you more but when not in the Ghostbuster gear stealing the limelight from the TK's I was in the AE throwing punters out of the last door.

Massive thankyou to "all" the UKCM, Malika, Harry, Jon Reason, Geordi, Rich B, Diz, Phil Q, Andy, Gareth, Andy G, Gary S and the Scientists, Simon (AE door lock was awesome), Paul Blackmoore for the Facehugger in the Jar. Darren, ADC and Junior Dredds. Of of course Axeman for guard duty on the AE. And anyone else I may of missed off.

Rocking event :D

Tony,
It was nice to meet you to & have a chat whilst I was on AE Guard duty :D

Loved the GB attire you had & also how you were getting folk to join in doing GB dance ;)

Very impressed with the Marine outfit you had on too.

The banter with the Stormies was great & loved the keeping Imps outta the display area, that had some comical moments morso with the Biker Scout :D

Wasn`t there last year But thoroughly enjoyed myself this year :D

Here`s to the next one :D

Jason (Formerly known As Axeman).

I think the rank system works like this. Sarge tells others what to do,then we all look at the Sarge & Laugh.

Seriously,The UKCM awarded rank is an actual rank, compared to those who made a rank to sit with their costume.
Though i don`t think it means you can tell ppl to get down & give you 50.

It means the privates get to clean all the boots at night when at conventions, the Sarge`s get their arses wet, when cracks appear ;)
Cpl`s being now abound throughout the UKCM,are the fetchers & carriers (General`s Dogs Bodies) of the UKCM ;)

Teckno Viking does not bode well with ranks,Teckno Viking does as he pleases in Odin`s name.

Jas’ I meant more along the lines of what actual ranks are there ? I’ve been given stripes on three occasions but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t make me a Sergeant. Aren’t there some ranks equivalent like we have a lance Corporal ? If Sergeant is E5 there must be E1-4 somewhere.

From what I can gather, we got PVT, PFC, CPL, SGT.

I got promoted twice at the NSC and apparently I'm a Corporal now...

Hey boss I’m not blaming anyone. I’m just not sure how it works.

Looking here http://www.us-army-info.com/pages/ranks.html
Explains the E1-4 bit though.

If I’m reading it right we all start with no stripes (E1), for some insane reason I’ve been awarded a total of three so that makes me E4 Specialist. Is that right ?

Ahhhhhh a structure is appearing. ust admit I`m surprised we`ve not gone the UK way with ranks, though that`s another can of worms I guess....LOL

So the US have 3 classes of Private, wow talk about underdogs trying to better themselves.

So th Sargeants in the UKCM,what versions are they as we do appear to have a few now?

Jason

When the first round of promotions were handed out at the first NSC event, 3 of them I believe, those people moved from Private to PFC. This would mean that they would have had to have been at E2 level to start with no?

E-1 PRIVATE - No Rank Patch
E-2 PRIVATE
E-3 PRIVATE FIRST CLASS

I went from Private to PFC to Corporal and now to Sarge (E5)

At the last NSC there was a blanet promotion so everyone who attended the event moved up one rank. There were then several people picked out for a "double promotion" to recognise their efforts.

So if you were Private you are not PFC. If PFC you are now Corporal (if you attended the event). Unless of course you were one of those given a double promotion of course.

So Kev, if you were Private then you are now Corporal (you got the double didn't you?)

I've said it before that I dont think we should get bogged down with rank systems as it doesn't really mean anything and is just a pat on the back sort of thing. As far as which system to use I think we should stick with the one established in the movie. We may be the UKCM but we are still suppoed to be part of the same overall force as the USCM so it would make sense and keeps a sense of uniformity.

Cheers

Darren

Also, be careful, because a few more of those events and you'll be all sporting stars and more gold braid that a baroque cathedral; and pretty soon a UKCM reunion will look like parade day on Red Square!

Maybe that’s where some of my confusion stems. I know some people got ‘out of the hat’ promotions and I thought everyone also got one as well. (I got given a stripe :?: ) So the out of the hats really had two.

But like you say it really makes no difference at all and there’s certainly no reason to take it too seriously. I just realised I didn’t really have a clue how it was supposed to work.

At the end of the day if I get to drink beer with good friends then you can call me what the hell you like. :D

Everyone got given a stripe at that event mate yes. I took this to be the "starting rank" of Private. The 3 others then got promoted to PFC. AFAIK everyone else has since started as Private and on their first promotion this would put them at PFC. So (and I may be wrong) but I always thought the very first private rank was skipped altogether.

Cheers

Darren
