The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

You need to look for a Dutch Army camping mat.

I find yoga mats to be a better option. They are already the correct thickness and are much easier to cut to shape and install.

I have yet to find a yoga mat with a pattern close enough to what was used on the movie costumes. But until then, a close enough substitute will have to suffice.

Some progress here!

I finished the greaves, now they too are camouflaged.

Added my name to the back of the lid:

Also, I installed the helmet cam:

And things are going well with the Motion Tracker:
Image

Also, now I can always tell if it's time for ALIENS:
Image

Now I'm waiting for the rest of the MT parts to arrive, and I'll be weathering the armour some time soon. Still not quite sure which way to go: acrylics thinned with water, pigments and stove/grate cleaner or something else entirely? So much excitement! :D

Great progress!

What about giving a try on the neck plates of the helmet to see how it works out and
use different methods on different parts to indicate differnt degree of weathering.
You could also try Graphit, if you like a more metalic look.

Some progress here, I finally got enough components for a first armour fitting, forgot to attach the shoulder lamp and to wear my Seiko.
Ignore the red shirt and the socks...

Front and back view:

And the gear so far:
Image

What I am sorely missing is the earpiece and mic, still in negotiations for a nice accurate (but expensive) way to get hold of something.
For the meantime, I got me one of these for when the lid comes off:

Been busy moving apartments, job is also taking up too much time, but soon all will be weathered, and BDUs are well underway. 8)

Man, believe me... I will try. Getting closer to finishing my marine!

Also, I will need a ride in that sweet Ectomobile-to-be of yours.
I even have the necessary duds:

Thanks! I took my time painting it, it's actually one of Chef's rubber knives and will probably never break. Also, convention safe!

Well, the Ecto won't be done for a bit...can you imagine what I would do if I could get my hands on the Hunslet att77. Regardless, your marine gear is looking solid and you're ahead of me (I'm still acquiring parts for the M56 but almost done and in a few weeks the steadicam arm will be paid off).

Good things come to those who wait, Adam.

I too still have a long ways to go, but I'm glad I figured out the basics for my marine, what I want and how I wanna do it.
Just aquired the final real parts for my motion tracker, all but the Matchbox transformer will be made from original components. Baby steps!

Hahn...this is seriously great stuff. So inspiring for me. I appreciate all the steps you've taken to be as true to the screen gear as possible...I love it!

Very clean paint work. Your RS TK always never fails to impress me. Love that kit!

Can't wait to see more!

Thanks, man! Much appreciated. I also love my RS kit best out of all the TKs I own(ed). Nothing beats cast from original.

There will be some updates soon, more steps have been taken to make it as accurate as financially and otherwise possible for me. 8)

The strike plate is from Chef, I cut it from a vac-formed helmet of his and attached it to my steel lid.

Get ready for a load of pics!

I have finished my Motion Tracker.
All original parts besides the pump widget and the Matchbox trafo - I have a real trafo coming to me, though, so that too will be replaced.

Here's some pics:

Another very cool find to add to my collection:

And I finally got my uniform thanks to the ever amazing Chef, and what a uniform it is.
Fits perfectly, very very well made and really looks the part:

I also mostly finished my Racal headset, all I need is the little metal clip that attaches the headband to the speaker unit:

Christmas came early this year!

Looking great! Technically the tip of your belt tool needs to be altered (they used the single barrel version in the film) but that's a tiny quibble.

Are you going to keep the camo fresh or go "salty"? I'm keen to see how Chef's product looks with some fading.

You're really doing an awesome job on the whole impression. That MT is stellar!

Gotta say; pretty jealous of that motion tracker and very nice all around.

Another tiny note though, the block from the headset should be outside the ear pad. In theory the soft parts should be touching the head and the block with the ear piece and mic should be clipped on the outer sides of the headset.
