The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I am pretty sure I want to march in front of a pair of nasty drawers on a stick. :)

Now that there is a new route, do we know how many miles it the parade is now? I want to know how long I have walk (practice) in my heels.

It's just under a mile.

My shoes are broken in for wearing around the house but I haven't tried walking anywhere in them yet.

Remember the walk to the staging area. All in I'd say 1.8 miles or so.

Carrying a smart gun and gear? I'm going mechanized to the staging area. :) anyone want to split a cab from the Hilton? Just kidding. I am too cheap to pay for a cab.

Are we at least going to be one of the first ones with the color guard and all?

We've been the first group in the parade each year since 2009. Right behind the official Dragon*Con stuff. Odds are extremely good we'll be stepping off first again this time.

The upshot to walking to the staging area is that it's shady on the sidewalks, and the march is separated from the actual parade so you have some time to stop, drink water, and rest awhile before the actual parade starts. The downside is it's mostly uphill.

From the map, it looks like there is a new staging area this year. Funs!

Parade update from DragonCon (though I doubt it adds anything we didn't already know:

http://dailydragon.dragoncon.org/dc2013/convention-information-2013/important-information-for-parade-participants/

Dragon Con reserves the right to exclude and/or remove participants that do not adhere to these participant guidelines:

You must be a member of Dragon Con to participate in the parade. Member badges must be worn and visible on parade morning.

You must be pre-registered with the Parade Team to march in the parade. Individuals and Group Contacts who registered for the parade must check in with the Parade Team either Thursday, 8/29, or Friday, 8/30, to confirm participation. The Parade Team table is located in the Sheraton, Lower Level, near the Capitol Ballrooms.

Official Dragon Con sponsors are the only commercial entries allowed in the parade. Advertising any other businesses or services is prohibited. If you planned to promote your business or service in any way during the parade, including but not limited to displaying the business name and/or contact information, you must have a sponsorship agreement with Dragon Con in place before the convention starts.

The only (non-human) animals allowed in the parade are properly identified Service Animals.

The Dragon Con parade is a family friendly event and a “politics-free zone.” Please conduct yourselves accordingly. Behavior and/or costumes and props considered offensive will be removed from the parade.

We have a new route and a new staging area (for participants only). Please take all distributed participant information to heart. Be patient with us and each other, and follow the directions of Parade Team members and the Atlanta Police Department on parade morning.

No, but I was in bad shape that year because I foolishly spent the entire evening Friday drinking with the UKCM and I was parading on 2 hours sleep and a grinding hangover. Additionally, as time goes on I constantly develop better techniques for carrying the rifle for extended periods without injuring myself.

But he did survive and that is why he is the UKCMs number one sniper... but it was touch and go for five minuets after the parade, so much so we had already started to divide up his gear... i had bagged he cap and shades... oh well

I have the aliens Legacy banner and will bring it with the flag poles for the color guard.

This is the banner with the various U*CM logos that I believe Scott Spence put together a few years ago.
Thanks again Scott for that :)

Sort of on topic, as it's about the parade, just seen this on Richard Hatch's Facebook page:

Quote:
The Dragon Con parade is a highlight of the convention and Richard Hatch will be participating by riding in the fabulous Cylon Raider that Gene Haggerty built and debuted at #galacticon3 in May. I've had the privilege of seeing the Raider up close and getting in it. I can tell you that it is WAY COOL! #richardhatch #battlestargalactica #cylon #dragoncon
