The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Just an idea:

At the last mem show i attended at the lg arena a few of the tv stars and one or two costumers were asking for a £1 donation for members of the public to have pictures taken with them. The donations would go to their selected charity.

I was thinking why the uniformed/ armoured guys dont do the same but instead just ask for any donation even if its as little as 5p - it all adds up. while you lot stroke your pulse rifles Hunter or my friend for example could carry a bucket decorated with the charity logo and even a rubber face hugger i have currently tucked away in a ps3 avp boxset. Members of the public could even hold the face hugger for photos etc. What do you guys think?

It's a pleasent idea. Very kind aswell. But i think it would be best to talk to Mantroon or Bazfish. I think they hold the fundraising account. Otherwise, great idea! :)

I also think it's a wicked idea.

What do you guys usually do,do you usually do collections at such events?
I can't find anything on the boards or I'm missing it completely?

It's difficult to know how these things work out when your a newbie here, can someone tell us?
Are Mantroon and Bazfish the ones who arrange collections for such events?

There is a predictable list of ideas that new members come up with time and time again before they see the reality of the UKCM. These include suggesting turning the group into a psuedo-military hierarchy, a fundraising group or even an improvisational theatre group.

The UKCM cannot legally collect money for charity directly because it's not set up in the legal framework of a fundraising group. It is, increasingly (and maybe lamentably), a drinking group that dresses up sometimes.

Come to a drop, then you can see what we are and make suggestions about where we should be going - whether that is putting in the (considerable) effort to become a legal fundraising group, or to start doing interpretive dance with an Aliens theme.

Its possible to register as an individual or as an organisation on most charity websites. They then send you official collection tins etc. I was thinking of registering myself or my friend as a collector for the day or weekend if need be.
I know the UKCM chosen charity is the NSPCC but for this I was thinking either going with them or maybe the Birmingham Childrens Hospital.

That is exactly what we have done previously. However, we haven't had the collective inclination to do such a thing recently, and we have learnt that there is a difference between a few people in costume begging and a charity costuming group from the perspective of the event organisers and we currently fall down on the wrong side of that line.

Enthusiasm is appreciated. But when you see the reality of the UKCM, you will realise what we are dealing with. We might not be the group you think we are ...

Very true. Think of it as a collective group of individuals who admire the Aliens universe. Yet love to socialise with others who like to laugh, drink, share stories, give nubbly wanks, flash suddenly boob and also step in time. The charity raised for is NSPCC. However, we only ask persons to make donations if they can on our uk based website. Mostly and sometimes as i've come to learn. We arn't a group of nerds who sit around a pub table discussing "xylon 5 and the men with three testicles" or discussing how we could of made it better. Of course i can't speak for all of us. But as Gareth said, just come along and hang out with us. Were all lovely guys. We even have girls in our group! ;p

Some if us take it seriously, some of us not. You are welcome who and what you are!

You don't sound like a nerd I must say lol

Great ideas by yourself,I would pay to have my pic with you guys in costume,I know some great 11 year olds who would too, their parents are usually happy to pay a small fee for their kiddie to have a pic.
Name me one parent who isn't lured by a children's hospital Charity? It's how you come across to people, act like a nerd people will treat you as such, but smile for the kids and they will be wanting a pic with you guys lol

Off my soap box now lol

Maybe we should put it to the ready line for this event, what do they think?

The reason that the UKCM doesn't collect for charity at events any more is that (for whatever reasons) we are not technically there on an 'official' capacity. I don't think that the event organisers would appreciate a random group of people wandering around they convention shaking collection tins. And the UKG are quite happily set up offering pictures with people in costume for a small fee. I'm not going to start stepping on their toes.

As it is, we are tolerated by most events and are sometimes lucky enough be offered free entry and a changing area. Lets not go rocking the boat.

If you really want to pursue the charity angle I suggest contacting either Bazfish or Mantroon here on the site and going over things with them. Bear in mind that they are both very busy individuals so don't expect an immediate reply.

It was only a suggestion and i'm more than happy to just go with the flow of things. I certainly don't want to get rocking any boats especially if it could cause any negative feeling/ opinions of the UKCM by event organisers.

Anyways im looking forward to this drop, meeting you guys and having a drink or two. I just need to know one thing, where they are (the bars that is  )
