The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey Chaps,

Had alook at the dates and events for the EXPO's and the MEM's. So, this is pretty much the first show of the year. I'm going to book a room at the "Premier Inn" over the road to the NEC.

So, will be booking a month before. Not now, or possibly look for other possible hotels/b&b's.

Hello Callum.

I remember that Woody found a great little B&B that is not to far away from the Premier Inn but we did go the Premier Inn for food on the Saturday night after walking around the place on the Friday night and going past a few pubs that was not up to standards for the UKCM!!!!

Obviously cause we have D*Con on the way and such. I would be happy with the Ibis or Holiday Inn mate. Obviously aslong as we have a bed and breakfast. =]

Plus, it would be excellent to see you Gem. And we can celebrate your birthday indeed! =]

But it's looking good and on the go!

No mate the UKG always splits in two when it comes to somewhere to stay..

Half go to the Swan in coleshill and the other more sensible lot go to fort Dunlop ( which is a little further away but the deal they did for the UKG at MEM just gone was £32 for the night)

Don't forget that you also have to pay the parking charges at the NEC and entrance to the event itself

Hope that helps mate

Coop

Copper @ So no free entrance to the NEC. If was given a free car parking card to put inside the front screen that last time I went.

If we got to pay for the parking and getting in I guess having the hotel close it no point.

I think I will look harder at the hotels to get the best price for service.

Cooper can you get me the details for the hotels????

Gemma @ Birthday with the UKCM, I would bring Headache tables!!

A lot of the deal is done through MCM (event organisers) same people that organise the expo's etc UKG work closely with them which is why they get free parking, entrance, changing room food etc MEM just gone no other "Costuming groups" had any of these privileges as far as I can recall ???? Which is why I mention the additional costs mate

This is the one I stay in .....

Hope that helps mate

Can we just turn up for this?

I wouldn't need a hotel, sorry chaps I've got family in Brum so would be easier to stay with them, but would be happy to meet for drinks or whatever it is you do after the event!

Would I be able to bring a mate who's not a member here?

How does this work, where do you all meet on the day!Do you all stay together at the event or go off with your mates and meet up later, how does it work, what are the usual arragments?

Apologises for all the questions,I'm a novice at this and the forum.

Cheers

H

I think it's changed a lot now buddy security was really tight at the last one wristbands and lanyards were issued the door staff weren't letting any one in without them :( there were even bag search tables and sniffer dogs on patrol there :| gone are the good old days of rocking up to MEM and having fun

In response to hunter ...... Nothing to stop you turning up and hanging around in the "mall" area but entrance to the event hall has to be paid for

Do you all know each other you didn't answer the rest of my question lol,I wouldn't want to feel like a spare part lol,do you meet up after the event?

How do these things pan out.

No probs about buying tickets there not expensive to buy and you can get them on the day,not so popular as it was a few years ago, although at some points during the day it does get busy.

I should rephrase to ensure others don't misunderstand - there was a time when we were issued with wristbands and access to a changing area with the blessing of the MCM organisers/event security. The lack of a changing area now makes it difficult for other groups to attend.

Personally, if I attend it will be evening only and I won't be costuming.

Hey Hunter

Some of us have met, some are new, but all are welcome :D I've only known the guys for just over a year and they are the nicest bunch you'll ever meet. There's not usually a set plan - we meet up and have fun :D There will be something resembling a plan nearer the time :D

The Breakfast is £6.65 "Our all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet gives you the choice of hot cooked breakfast, toast, granola, Kelloggs cereal, fruit and yoghurt as well as hot drinks and juice - for the perfect kick-start to the day."

Wow last time I reserved a room at the normal rate about a month before the con and it only came to a total of about £50 I think one night was still £19 and the other was the rest. It kinda took the money in advance but was still refundable as I cancelled the room. That was for Mem just gone.
