The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

No more snoes, just an ice world outside my front door. :cry:

Enjoy the film guys.

No way.

I've got to walk miles to the station and the surrounding streets (many hills) are sheets of ice.

With my very poor balance I'd not make it to the end of my road. :|

Call a minicab, get in, close your eyes and hold on tight?

I want to see the film, but don't want to risk my life doing it. :wink:

Doubt the cab would get anywhere near me anyways.

A few of the locals have been trying to clear the icy pavements with shovels the last few hours.

The shovels bounce off the ice making a loud clang, so it's as if I'm at a blacksmith's exhibition at the moment. :lol:

Your road is not the easiest of places to get in to and out of in the best of weather ! :evil:
so don't blame you for not trying to get out and see the film, you can always go another day.. i was going to see it yesterday but decided clearing the snow from my paths was a bit more important.. :) I'm going to see it Wednesday from work..

Cossack Street today could have been a training ground for downhill skiers. :lol:

Just hope it snows a lot tonight so I can go out tomorrow and buy some food. :roll:

Wish you could have made it, Steve. I suppose this explains why everyone pirates movies in Sweden ;)

Take great care if it does snow tonight - a little snow on top of ice is much worse than either alone.

As for Avatar, it's pretty good. ;)

IMAX 3D gives me a serious headache.

New version of Avatar is booking now at the Waterloo Imax:

http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson/bfi_imax/ ... rience_12a

I'd love to book to see it the weekend after the Bank Holiday weekend (I may have another llama show thing on the BH weekend), but I won't know when I'm in hospital until at least after I see the doc this Wednesday, so will see what's happening after that.

Have just booked to see this on the Tuesday afternoon after the Bank Holiday at 2:15pm. :)

There's still a few decent seats left (some at premium rates :roll:):

http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson/node/17766

My seat is M16.

Thought I'd better give my verdict on the film now that I've seen it;

3D = 1/10

Film (including the cgi) = 9/10

I've seen a film in Imax 3D before (The Polar Express) and had no problems with the 3D.

With Avatar my eyes seemed to be fighting the 3D effect for the first half an hour or so, making my eyes feel very tired after a while.

A lot of the 3D looked to me to be on three 'planes' of view, with foreground objects (which were not in focus) having a second ghost image, the main viewpoint (e.g. Jake's face) looking 3D but like a cardboard cutout, rather than having its own depth of field and backgrounds looking more blurred than they should be.

Here's an example, the first pic being as the scene should look and the second how my eyes saw it:

Blu-ray arrived this morning.

/removed comments about the Na'vi not being subtitled, as only the first bits are, which may have been how the film was. :oops:

Must say that the quality of the visuals on the BD are stunning. :shock:

Much more detail than I saw in the Imax (due to my eyes having issues with the 3D). Although I am watching it on a 32" screen, sitting less than five feet away from it. 8)

It is an old thread, I just amended the title to point people to this bit of it, to show the re-release. :wink:

I'm known on other forums for liking threads to be re-used, rather than have multiple threads all about the same thing. :wink:
