Well I had an absolute BLAST this year!
The "theme" of the year was Star Trek... so yeah- right up my alley!
Unfortunately while I did bring my camera, I absolutely loath carrying it around and didn't take any pics (so I'm hoping someone will post their's soon

).
And yeah- Dom makes a great dance shark! I wish I had my camera in hand for that one!
Having Lottie and Rob come up made the con all that more special; it felt like a true reunion with our American cousins!
So... You know how you spend hundreds of dollars and hours of research on a costume, only to be outshined by "that guy" in a simple Rubies costume?
Well this year I was "that guy."
A week before the convention I decided to do a last minute costume- Kirk fom Amok Time:

So I took a cheap Rubies captain's tunic and cut a hole across the chest. I didn't have a clue where to get some fake blood in the middle of the summer (it would be everywhere in October), so I had a brainstorm- I bought some red cake gel icing!
It worked perfectly! The "blood" looked good, but didn't look too gruesome, and had that "cheesy fake 60s blood" look.
I also made myself a quick and dirty "lirpa" weapon-

This was easily the most simple costume I've come up with (and cost maybe $20 tops in materials)! It was a big hit! As soon as I got on the convention floor, people were pointing and saying, "That's awesome!" Some of them even started singing the Amok Time fight music-
Duh DA DAAA DAAA DAAA DAAA daaa duh DA daaa duh!
I actually couldn't believe how much attention this got- even more than my WOK uniform.
Again waiting for someone to post the pics.
The sweep went well even though there were only a handful of us. Scott also had a "surprise ending" for the sweep this year! I won't give it away until the vid gets posted (yeah I'm being a big tease with this post).
The panel also went well- there was a lot of concern that we wouldn't be able to fill an hour just chatting ourselves without any audience interaction (we felt that if they didn't ask any questions we would be tongue tied). However this didn't happen and afterwards we figured we could have kept going on and on if we wanted to!
(And even though I was trepidacious about being a panelist, I'm glad I sat on the panel and not in the audience like I had initially planned.)
All in all a great weekend!
