The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Going with a complete newb to the business and unknown quantity. That can go either very badly or very well. Only time will tell.

Did I miss a thread announcing that Ridley Scott's now attached to direct?
Came on to post this:

I read that scott wanted a new director to do it but Fox was only interested in a new franchise if Scott was involved as director.

Maybe Cameron may be interested in doing the second of the three. (if its a new trilogy we are talking here)

I'm going to be selfish here and say I don't want Cameron back to do another Alien movie. Not until he has done his Battle Angel Alita project

Yeah, with you on that one, Jon. And I was looking forward to Ridley Scott making Forever War.

At the BFI Scott said something along the lines of (obviously can't remember his exact words),
"I’ve got a good writer doing it. I’ve seen some of James Cameron’s work for Avatar, and I have to go 3D. It’s going to be phenomenal."

Wow -- how about the Alien prequel in 3D! :D

How cool would that be?! One can dream...

So is this prequel still supposed to center on the derelict ship and the space jockey?

Won't that have to have some sort of human element in it so that audiences can relate to it, or is it going to go in a completely different direction?

I just saw the news mentioning Ridley directing (from here - which heard it from Variety).

I think this could be excellent. It's probably the best chance we have of another good Alien film.

I'm quite excited by it now.

I'm remaining cautious on this one.

I'll wait until the end credits roll before I make an opinion.

Just to be clear- I have no grief with anyone who is getting excited about this; I tend to be wary about sequels/prequels etc.

DSB- I don't think Hollywood is ready to accept a full alien movie without any "humans" in it whatsoever (they might fear the audience not being able to relate to the film), so I would imagine there would be some sort of human crew in the script.

Ridley Scott now directing too, has got to be the best news (if true) we've had on this. :D

I think at the very least we'll get a beautifully filmed movie, probably at least 2 hours long, so a top chance for proper character development once again.

IMHO something severely lacking lately with most of the shite churned out by the big studios these days.

And Ridley isn't going to let a poor story/script ruin his ALIEN Legacy.

There's hope for this one. 8)

I read on Dark Horizons that this film is going back to the '1 alien, 1 ship' formula of the first movie.

Just as long as its something new that fits before the first movie and not something that pretends that we slept through half the first movie and won't notice how much they've screwed up. Sadly, enough money will make most people bend their rules to get hold of it. Fingers crossed. I hope it does explain who what and where from and doesn't feel it has to follow the AVP story line.
