The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm not near London, but I'm really looking forward to the first of the new Red Dwarf episodes that start tonight. It's one of my favourite series' ever. The 7th wasn't all that good, and the 8th was a bit pants, but overall it was amazing.

Less than 6 hours to go...

Just watched all three parts.

Enjoyed it, didn't miss the studio audience.

Looking forward to the DVD.

I thought it was great and the ending was inspired.

On the downside I'm now hungry for a whole series...

I found it a let down... they streached a good idea over a 3 parter.. could have done it in 2 parts. at times some of it seemed padding..

I hated every second of it. It's like they trawled the very worst of RD fanfiction and wrote a script from it.

So Ep 2 and 3 are much better?

The first made me not want to watch the others, in fact I was considering deleting them from my DVR. I'll give them a chance then when I get time ...

+1 to that, what a bag of spanners they turned RD into.

I think it was seriously missing the laughter track, just to tell us when we were supposed to laugh. :P

Sadly I found it pretty average on the whole, and didn't find it very funny at all. :(

I thought it was pretty shite, myself.

First episode I was mostly sat there going, "HUH???!!!".
Last I saw, Rimmer just got back from a mirror universe and had just kicked Death in the nuts, the rest of the crew were elsewhere and we were on a cliffhanger.

The lack of continuity was awful.
Kochanski's dead, Rimmer's a Hologram again, loads of other things have happened and there's a vague mention of a few bits to explain what might have happened.

I was even more worried when they mentioned Seasons 9 & 10!!!

Then they start pissing about with coming into the real world, turn it into a parody of Bladerunner (very well done, but what was the point? Aside from Bladerunner being an inspiration in RD's inception?) and chuck in a Coronation Street reference for laughs.

I got all the jokes and the references, but it just wasn't the Red Dwarf everybody knows. It wasn't funny, it wasn't fun and it wasn't engaging.
About the best thing was what Rimmer did while stood at the side of the road (phrased so as not to spoil the plot).

IMO, they just jumped the shark.

Keep the dodgy set build, keep the studio laughs, ditch the prissy CGI and get the cool writing team back!!!

I thought the first ep was okay, but a bit weird. It was odd not having an audience, and I didn't think it was very funny.

The second one was worse. I hate it when they knock out the fourth wall, and start self referencing. Not very funny either. I did like the Bladerunner zoom bit on the photo, but not a lot else. The bit on the bus was terrible; talking about the channel it's on was embarrasing.

The third one was as bad as the second. I hate stuff like Corination Street, and it was full of references to the real world.

After 10 years for ideas to come to mind, all they could come up with was a rip-off of one of their previous episodes, a rip-off of a classic SF film, and setting it in other peoples sets.

I was planning on watching it again in one part to see if it's better now I've got over the expectation and I know what to expect. I haven't managed to get round to it yet, as I started watching the full run of Spaced. I might try to force myself to watch it again next week sometime.

The bottom line is that is just wasn't Red Dwarf. It felt like a "Children In Need" or "Comic Relief" special.

It will have to be VERY cheap and have LOADS of extras for me to buy it and complete the collection.

It did get good ratings, so I suppose there is a slim chance of a 10th series.
