The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey everyone,

Some of you may have seen the Sun campaign for Help For Heroes on TV recently, a charity that helps our wounded servicemen and women.

On the 8th April (tomorrow!) I'm going to be jumping out of a plane, 15,000ft above the ground, falling at up to 120mph. I have never done a skydive before and I am absolutely bricking it!

If anyone wants to sponsor me you can do it here:

http://www.justgiving.com/danielcallaghan

Wish me luck folks!

Something about Skydiving that makes me question the sanity of those that do it.. :?: I mean first there is the jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. But then there is the fact that you pay for the plane to take off.. Fly to an altitude.. Then land... You paid for the fuel, but are not even there for the whole ride..

  Have fun and be safe :delta:

Oh man you'll love it!! I was nervous until the training started on the ground - it's well done and fully covered - and I just seemed to be calm and collected from there!! Did my first jump for a local Children's Hospice and it was love at first drop!

Tip - do NOT wear jogging bottoms - because they're loose and thin the harness snapped into my legs when the parachute slows you down from 120mph to 15mph. I had black and red bruises for a month and couldn't sit for a week. Not kidding. Wear jeans and if they ask you if want a boiler suit - say yes!! :)

Training for my Skydivers licence now so I can jump on my own - I strongly advise hiring the cameraman -I think it's about £90 :? But it's worth every penny. DVD and lots of pictures to enjoy! :D ...

Post them up when you've done it!!!

Dan, it's a GREAT experience and 15,000ft is a good sky dive! As others have said, it is a phenomenal experience,
and I'm sure you'll want to do it again and again! Good luck and post some pix!

The only thing cooler (and probably more unnerving) would a drop pod, ala Halo 1/2/3's (and the books) ODST Drop Pods, or the SST novel's Drop Capsule (which in my opinion is where they get cap trooper from in the book. shorthand for "capsule trooper").

Well I'm back from the airfield.....

Without doing a jump

The weather was too windy for us to go up, so I've had to reschedule for a couple of weeks time. Absolutely gutted, I'd pretty much got myself all worked up to do it and then got told it wasn't going to happen!

Sorry to hear about the postponement but think of it this way...

In a couple of weeks you'll get to experience the excitement of "getting set for your jump tomorrow" again! :)

Having gone through Ranger school as a "leg", I can tell you that "birdshit and idiots" fall out of the sky. However, there was some resentment in that deduction formulated out of a lack of sleep.
However, it is pretty cool. I am a thrill junkie. Good luck.
