The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Plot SPOILERS:

After Star Trek Nemesis, the Romulan named Nero decides that it is all the Federation's fault. Most importantly that it is the Enterprise and Kirk's fault. So he travels back in time (ala Back to the Future 2) to give knowledge on how to defeat Kirk to the old school Romulans (gives them the Sports Almanac so to speak). This changes the timeline. Spock, still hanging out on Romulus goes back in time and talks to his younger self and encourages the crew to steal the Enterprise and to get together before they actually all did to stop Nero and the Romulans. This fixes things but sets up an alternate timeline.

So it's basically a really involved apology for the last movie. But it screws up all the other movies? Meh.

Screws up everything.

You know... I can honestly say I'm sick to death of time-travel being used as a plot device in Star Trek. It has been done to DEATH!

What's so wrong about time travel? It's an actively vital part of the Star Trek story - time travel occurs in nearly all the series as well, doesn't it?

There is nothing wrong with a good time travel story.

The problem is that it has been used sooooo often that there is no possibilty of creating drama anymore.

"Oh gee... we screwed up? No problem! We'll just travel back in time and fix it all the way it was supposed to be."

If you can kill off cast members just to travel back in time and prevent their deaths... the death of a character becomes meaningless. The same goes for any catastrophic disaster. The writers have gone to the well one too many times.

It's cute to see Admiral Kirk and company dealing with the strangeness of Earth in 1986 (or Captain Janeway and company on Earth in 1996 or Captain Sisko on Kirk's Enterprise)...

Sickening when it is done over and over and over again.

I don't think I need to reiterate my undying love for Voyager now do I?

As for this film, does it seem like a giant kick in the nuts to effectively wipe out all of Trek history for this movie or is it me?

no no... it's a "reboot" or a "reinvisioning" sort of like the GI Joe movie Chris. :)

Just... just leave it all alone please Paramount. Give us a movie with TNG, DS9, and VOY characters in it. That would be enough.

I am psyched about the classic uniforms once more.

Oh let's not forget that Tyler Perry is in the movie too.

Huge kick. Huge.

And with the exception of the Batman franchise (which was in serious need of a reboot)... I'm tired of all the re-envisioned stuff these days.

Quit raping my childhood.

I'm jazzed about the original Enterprise on the big screen- and how it will feel nostalgic while at the same time be cutting edge...

Just don't totally f--k up the whole history of Trek for the sake of keeping the franchise alive (and there is A LOT of history there)!!!

Why don't we remake ALIEN while we're at it?

Yes he is, and knowing what a sci-fi fan he is, I bet he's gonna have a big grin on his face for the next 2-3 years! :D

Thing is of course, he's a bit of a dark horse, many know his comedy, but few have realised he appeared in Band of Brothers. So I think that Scotty may be in good hands.

Karl Urban's castin as McCoy is I have to say inspired - never even thought of him in the role, but when I saw a pic of him in an article with the late Deforest Kelly, the resemblence was striking.

I don't know tha much about the cast of actors... so are the film makers picking actors around the same age? so we have a young bunch of actors or are they getting the ages right ..as Spock and Mc coy should be older than kirk...
