The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Did they ever do Tomax and Xamot in a suit?

I like Firefly. (Though I'm not 100% behind his name)

I would be able to do it this year, since I already have urban BDU's as a good starting point, but I'd want to have a flamethrower, and I'm pretty sure I can't get that on the budget I'd be working with.

Firefly was a saboteur. he didn't have a flamethrower. Just a machine pistol and a cellphone.

Is that what that is?

I'll level with you, I didn't watch enough of the show to know these things. The tiny images I'm dealing with here aren't a lot of help.

Yeah the gun looks much cooler for the 25th anniversary version.

Besides we dont get too weapon specific.

Google Image Search isn't being a whole lot of help in my research endeavour.

I'll see how my funds look after I've finished paying off all my USCM stuff, but I don't think I'll be able to build the backpack and procure some sort of similar weapon in the time frame.

Remember that a backpack is secondary. Urban camo and a cobra patch... gets the point across.

Right, right.

Sometimes I have to slow down and remember that most people aren't the costuming uber-perfectionist I am.

*breathes deep* It will be okay. No one will laugh if everything isn't perfect. **

Oh I'm not encouraging you to do anything half-assed... take your time.

On a related note... yes people are planning on doing Joe/Cobra costumes for D*con... and yes it's the Off topic section, but could we start a new thread about this?

I'm just think what with it getting much closer we need to work on our things like the parade and colony sweep, etc.

Yay parade! Yay colony sweep!

And yes, yay Joe/Cobra too, hehe.

If I may, I'd like to start that segue off with a suggestion I made a while ago for the sweep. We're gonna have a metric butt-ton of Marines here this year, and a 60 Marine colony sweep is going to have all the grace and coordination of a pack of monkeys trying to f*** a football.

I wanted to suggest maybe breaking up into smaller squads and each sweeping different parts of the convention halls, and all meeting up in a central area for the dramatic whatever at the end. Thoughts?

I think it would be cool to have mutliple colony sweeps throughout the weekend.

Figures? No. In the toon and comic, all the time.

I'd be up for a second sweep on Sunday... I don't have a video guy for this year. Any volunteers?

Will we really have 60+ marines this year? I seem to only recall 20ish last year. But, my count is nowhere near official, as I wasn't around a lot, and wasn't counting.

Multiple sweeps seems like a good idea. Leaving the question of how we're going to divvy it up.

FWIW I'll have the mini HD camera and at least 10 gigs of free space on memory cards and find a way to mount it on the NERF Longshot for more FPS goodness. Heaven forbid the NERF is a no go in the checked luggage I won't have a weapon prop and would likely be able to take footage and then easily send it back through megaupload or something.

Dude! I love Firefly!!!

But I'm a bit of a purist myself I guess- I only like the appearance of the 3 3/4" figures.

Back in the 80s I had over 40 of the figures including the original straight arm Cobra Commander. In 1996 I ran into financial trouble and sold all of them to a scumbag comic shop for $47.50.

But if I could buy my favourites back they would be (in no particular order)...

Storm Shadow
Fire Fly
Recondo
Gung Ho
Airborne
'82 Cobra Commander
'82 Cobra Officer
'82 Cobra Soldier
Baroness
Hooded Cobra Commander
Rip Cord
Footloose
Snow Serpent
Leatherneck

Dammit I AM going to buy them back!! :D

I think you can count the UKCM guys out of the sweeps as #1 it might be tea-time and #2 we'd look silly with not having our guns.

I'm guessing/hoping there might be a few flamers and/or VP70s for us to borrow, as I'd like to do at least one sweep. 8)

I have already offered my PR to Pete for his use most of the time, however, if he doesn't need it or is doing a different costume and I don't need it. Someone else is welcome to it. :)
