Well... we saw it. Um...
It's hard to be objective when you spent most of it with your mouth open in sheer confusion. I won't give away the plot (LOL) but here's a few observations:
• A lot of it gives the impression that it was filmed on one camera, and people's dialogue done sequentially. There's a lot of looking at each other and reacting to things which don't make sense. Also I'm convinced there was ad-libbing going on, which who knows, perhaps they encouraged it... but it didn't work. That said, there were one or two bits of the script I quite liked. They don't last long though.
• Most of the exteriors have a yellow filter on... except when it's night time, in which case they cleverly swap the filter to blue. I haven't seen such blatant day-for-night since Hammer closed down. Also it seems to take place mostly in one clearing in some woods. People say things like "we've got to get off this mountain!" So, er... get off the mountain?
• Watch out for the alien hunter's lasso, which at one point is a bungee cord.
• Contain your amazement as one of the characters brandishes a gun with an orange plug in the end. Seriously.
• It didn't help that there was a character called 'Mr Garrison' and every time anyone said his name I couldn't help but think of Cartman.
• The 'music' sounded like something from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
• The FX range from average to pathetic. The certificate is 18, which baffles me as every time anyone dies it seems to happen off-screen, while the other actors grimace a bit.
Incredibly there's even a twist ending which sets it up for a sequel! Oh, and you have to read the end credits because there are some (intentionally) funny comments in there.
In closing, if someone here had made it in their spare time I would have said 'nice try'. But to pretend it's a real film and sell it in shops... no way. Still, I'm glad I saw it and I don't have to see it again.
PS Darren, if you really want to see it we'll send you ours and save you the £2.97!
