The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Not wishing to look petty, there seems top be a bit of confusion, the criteria for a skirmisher is as a member of an insured site. The UKARA data base is a tool for retailers to use to ease the burdon of proving somebody's site membership. You can't just get UKARA registered, the site membership is the important bit.

I'm sure they would quickly amend the act to shut this down, thus rendering all your effort a waste of time.

If you actually set up a small museum, I don't believe they will shut it down. the concensus from the Home office was that is what the defence is for.

If however somebody 'pretends' to set up a museum, I imagine the weight of the law would be firmly against them.

Sorry, when I said UKARA member I meant registered as I understand the procedure of going to a site etc.

Also, when I say shut down, I'm not referring to the person's "museum" but the defence itself. I think they would tighten this up from a general exemption for all museums and make it much harder to qualify under this part of the act.

I think if someone went to all the trouble of legally opening a museum then yes that would work but my point was that surely that is far more hassle than simply going airsofting a few times.

Cheers

Darren

Thanks all.

Firstly, I don't think setting up of a museum/gallery would be all that expensive or time-consuming except for the Disability Discrimination Act... doubtless, you'd have to install lifts if the collection wasn't on the ground floor.

Advertising is a contentious issue too. How would you prove where you've advertised? Some museums, I'm sure, advertise online only - how do you prove that? Link today, gone tomorrow... We spoke about 'invitation only' galleries amongst collectors so advertising in a local newspaper would be pretty damn pointless. But for £15 or so, a bargain for sure.

:)

advertising could be a simple thing of the lot to do.

If collectors that wanted to go down this route banded together they could easily set up a small museums association.

By running a website for the association, collections that have been turned into museums could be advertised on the website. i'm not advocating you put up an address for every one, but a geographical location like 'High Wycombe, Bucks' or 'Harrow, West London' could be posted with a contact number of email so you can invite interested parties to view your museum and then give them the exact address.

An association could also help with insurance and compliance with any legislation
