The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

This idiot!

So I'm picking up a recent eBay win from my local post office (located inside a variety store).

The package was a sword- so it was inside about a 40" long triangle shaped box. I pick up my box- and proceed to walk out with it cradled under my arm.

In the entire store are myself, the postal worker, the store clerk and some older man having a conversation with the clerk.

As I walked past the man- he cuts off the clerk in mid sentence, and what does he say (sticking his hand out)?

"WATCH OUT HE HAS A GUN!"

I'm thinking... "Are you completely crazy?!?"

I was so caught off guard that all I could come up with was- "Don't say that too loudly (shaking my finger); someone might believe you."

Fortunately the only two other people didn't think anything of it- but I couldn't help but think how badly this might have gone if the store was full of people.

The guy happened to leave as I was putting my package in my car. He stupidly smiled at me and said he was only kidding.

Dumbass!

With that uniform, hopefully it was the NCO. :)

I'd have taken his license plate and spoken to someone about that.
I cannot believe anyone would say that, even in jest.

Thankfully there was no one else around who cared.

What can I hide behind?

It was the Mamaluke.

*Ducks for cover*

But... I don't plan on wearing it. I did originally start searching for one to be a part of my uniform, however after purchasing it, I decided it would just be for my collection as a display piece. I do like swords y'know.

I'm on the lookout for an NCO now (where they don't charge $40 for shipping  ). Gonna be gold. However I might have to scratch make a throg for it- I don't think a standard throg would fit on my 2 1/4" parade belt.

Tony- thanks man. Because nothing really happened I decided to let it go. Just needed to get it off my chest. :)

Funny.

Similar story. A friend of mine is a special agent for the USPS. They focus on mail fraud, drugs in the mail, anthrax, hate crimes... when he travels to Wash DC, he is supposed to carry his weapon on the flight for added security. So he checks in at O'Hare airport security and says, "I am Special Agent --------, with the US Postal Inspectors and I will be carrying my weapon on flight ---- to DC"
The TSA agent says, " Uhhh, yeah, I better call this in" picks up phone, " Uhh yeah, boss? There's a guy from the post office here and he's got a gun!"
I'm surprised they did not shut down the airport

Classic examples of mouths moving faster than brains.

I've got a friend who still insists on making jokes about bombs when we're on the London Underground or in an airport... and they can't quite understand why I get so annoyed by it.

You mean it's not spelled like this?

http://www.paradestore.com/detail.aspx?ID=30

I'm actually looking for an NCO sword right now though- not the frog/throg.

Reading the various stories... It's clear the dumbasses outnumber the intelligent people Worldwide.

No, they spelled it wrong... just like some sites spell "epaulettes" as "epillettes".

Behold!

An attachment to a belt for carrying a weapon

I see.

So they did spell it wrong!

Now where can I find an NCO sword that won't cost me an arm in shipping? :)

I have my own theory on that.

you want to hear it?

the "average person" has an IQ of 100, as 100 is the "average" people. Now... 2 tings happens. either you are above, or below. Problem is, we above people notice below people a lot, as they make arses of themselves, and we see it.
They happen to make arses of themselves a lot more then the above people, as they are more stupid then the average people. Result, you notice the idiots a lot more then the non-idiots.

Also, we do have supergeniuses - IQ around 190. To have the average at 100, and because there is no-one with an IQ of 10 (that would be as intelligent as a golden retriever. And, please don't make blond jokes, the average bimbo blond has at least 35 :P)
We need several 70s to counterbalance a single 190 IQ and keep the average at the "average" 100...

so there ARE more dumb people... and we notice dumb people more then non-dumb people.
Result, you end up thinking that there's only idiots in society.

but... I'm off topic.

70 range are those who are "simple". Like Forrest Gump (I believe he was a 75).

I've done two IQ tests in my life - the first I scored 142. The second (taken after I had my daughter) was 134 and I did it in a room full of people talking to me. Either way, apparently I'm in the top 2% of the population.

So why do I feel so stupid sometimes? ;)
