The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Of course this stems from the "Death scenes" thread.

So the other night I popped "Dog Soldiers" into the dvd player... There is a pretty decent escape scene in which the Sgt and Cooper get out of being cornered by shooting through the floor of the closet the are hiding in- allowing them an escape route.

This got me thinking of other great escape scenes or situations where you think, "How the hell are they going to get out of this one?!"

So let's hear 'em! :D

Probably one of the better ones for me is the spectacular climax of Back to the Future: Marty is in the Delorean and has reached 88mph... However Doc is hanging from the Clocktower still trying to plug in the industrial extension cord. After yanking on the cord trying to make it reach the other extension... He accidentally pulls it out of the plug down on the street!

I'll never forget the first time I saw BTTF in the theater my Dad leaned over to me and said- "I don't know how they are going to get out of this one!" :D

I believe it was either Batman The Movie or just an episode....

Batman and Robin, tied to racks with huge magnifying glasses over them.....you can see the sunlight burning a line in the rack getting closer and closer.......then Batman speaks.

'Be patient Robin, don't you remember.....there is an eclipse of the sun due. Follow my lead as the slightest error could result in our death'

He shuffles the magnifying glass as the eclipse darkens the sky......then the sun emerges and burns through their ropes with awesome precision

GENIUS!!!

The other would be the Bat Shark Repellant Spray right as he is dangling under a helicoptor being attacked by a VERY lifelike shark.

Again....GENIUS!!!

Oh wait....did you mean quality escapes?

I always liked that one in Star Wars Episode IV when look and Leia swing across the death star chasm.

Now, is it true that for a while during production the Falcon wasn't going to make it, and this was later changed to the narrow escape - or is that just a myth? :?

(It would have paid off Han's line about never seeing her again.)

"All right HAL, I'll go in through the emergency airlock."

Without your space helmet, Dave, you're going to find that rather difficult.
"HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors!"

Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore....

Goodbye.

Was talking with Mike Quinn (Nien Numb) a few weeks ago and I believe that is just a myth.

Awesome scene though!

Yeah that's a great scene, Kevin. And an inspired movie.
Did you ever see "The Descent", the directors next film?

I think Neil Marshall would be an excellent choice of director
to work on any future Aliens films.

Ok, back on thread...
James Bond when he uses his watch to get out of lots of scrapes,
and also when he uses its magnetic field generator to unzip
the Bond girls dress...

Jim in 28 Days Later breaking the girls out, only to be shot as they make a dash for the taxi, ending with that awesome pause-moment.

No. I'll have to check that one out! :D

James Bond movies have several great escapes... usually because his "gadget" saves him (I call it the "get out of jail free card").

However tension and drama are at it's best in a Bond movie when he can't use his gadgets (they are lost, broken, ineffective, etc) and has to rely on his wits.

So my favourite Bond escape has to be- talking his way out of a laser circumcision in Goldfinger.

Surprised that no one has mentioned any Indiana Jones ones yet.

I always loved Sarah dragging Kyle down that hall at the end of The Terminator with the cyborg hot on their tails. Looks dated nowadays for sure but my heart starts racin' nonetheless.

There's lots of excellent ones in the Bourne movies.

Chicken Run - classic.

The Road Warrior (Mad Max II) - is that an escape? kinda.

An hour for anything to happen? Well yeah, like in Alien.
I don't mind a slow build up; I like the tension. As long as the pay off
is well handled. And For me 'The Descent' pulled it off, which I rarely find with modern horror films.

And talking of escapes, how about Ripley's first two outings!
