The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I know I'm asking for hell to freeze over, but if anyone knows of any places other than the one place here in the US that has the cage back-ordered forever. Hehe, yes, I know I'm asking for a miracle, but hey, if anyone has a spare, or knows of a place overseas that has one, I would very much appreciate it, I'm steadily building my airsoft pr, but hey, parts are scarce.
Thanks in advance.
Jonathan

Seeker - I had posted a similar thread on da o'Board. I can give you a summary on what I found out from that old thread:

Europe -- Isn't any better for SPAS-12 cages. One board member reported a de-act. SPAS-12 for sale at around 600 Sterling Pounds or US 900 (and you'll never get it to the States so forget that)! Another member basically pestered a Swiss dealer to nearly brain-dead until the dealer gave in and strip one gun's cage out (don't expect that to happen for you too young Jedi). Forget about contacting Franchi (who probably have been contacted by every single Aliens fan on Earth and by now won't waste spit or finger taps to answer our one eternal dumb question).

US -- You know the scoop.

Other members -- There are some members with more than 1 real SPAS-12 cage but unless you are ready to part with one of your lungs, I would estimate your chances of convincing one of them to sell you one of their extra cages are slim to none, and you know where slim has gone ...

eBay -- once in a long while a SPAS-12 de-mil. kit might pop-up, but you'd be crowding in on those auctions with everybody here and their cousins plus real gun collectors all bum-rushing for the ownership rights of one.

eBay PR -- there is one seller of PR guns on eBay for US$500 that features a real SPAS-12 cage. But the PR is crap from all accounts.

Why -- You must remember that Franchi stopped the production of SPAS-12 in 2000, hence the call for parts goes down with sales. AND every gun enthusiast I talked to who have owned the real steel complained that they were really heavy and handled like a VN pig (M60). While everyone may agree that the SPAS-12 is just silly cool and mean-mother looking -- I don't believe the real steel was ever popular outside of the Hollywood community.

Conclusion -- Man, I feel for you because I am in the same boat, a crowded and leaky boat without paddles and heading down that famous brown watered creek.

(Sounding of Taps) :(

It is, but they mis-cut the pump grip, making it almost unuseable, thus you would only really get the SPAS cage for your money....making it a REALLY expensive SPAS cage.

Here's another possible option for the US folks.

Purchase a real steel Spas (I've seen plenty for $700-750), keep the cage and grip and sell the rest on ebay (minus the receiver). Last person who did this made their money back, minus a little for the cage.

It all depends on how much the cage/grip is worth to you.

So here's the egg end of the chicken story -- where do we go to get a SPAS-12 (I know, I know -- I've already been told that they are found at gun shows. BUT -- is this common ??):P

That's the burning question SWFreak.

The trouble with a plan like that is that the set-up costs could be quite high as I think most of it was stamped from metal sheet. The cost of the tool to do that, and to fold and weld it properly would be considerable.

Of course if Franchi had the cage and pump grip made by an outside contractor and we tracked them down that might be the best way to go, but then there's the possible issue of copyright etc.

Maybe we should just try to persuade Franchi to put the cage and pump grip back into production, does anybody here know anyone from the company?

Harry.

Why cant we get a shop to copy a real cage? It can't be that hard.

Has anyboby ever thought of using the M60 Forearm...it's about the same size and shape but not screen correct...I would be interested if someone has tried it already cause that's what I was thinking of trying since you can't get the SPAs Cage anymore.

Pretty rad. idea. The problem is 1. It's not cannon. 2. M60 forearms aren't exactly cheap & easily available.

A friend of mine with a brand new metal sheet stamper recently dropped $1000 on a spas. In about 2 months time we should have them pre-cut (properly thanks to Alex) for pulse rifle use. It's in the R&D phase currently. I will post the work in progress photos very soon.

We are also looking into making sure we make them big enough to fit the airsoft 870's.

I've only ever seen one SPAS 12 real steel at a gun show adn the asking price was $1000. And I saw one in a gun store in WV with a $2000 tag.

Yeah, they are pricey, and now days it's damn near impossible to find the steel cages and pump grips alone.

This weekend we sat down and started the plans for the cages, and how we are going to cast, and cut the pump grips.

Hey Noeland

Any updates on your progress with SPAS cages.
How many do you think you'll be producing?

Cheers

Darren

No idea. I just moved to Atlanta, so that's been taking allmy time of late. My friend in Tampa with the metal press said he will be attempting a prototype cage after his vacation. He's on vacation in Utah until the end of april.

I'll make sure to keep the boards posted.

Hope it gets up and running. I've been looking everywhere for a cage and grip but obviously had no luck.

Hope you enjoy your new filming project by the way. (I'm sure you will)

Cheers

Darren
