The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Keeping it on topic, the documentary is in good hands and has AL member involvement.

Sanctioned gigs like that, if you are needed, you will be contacted.

They have everythig they need that they are approved to disclose. Images have to be upheld and whatnot.

Some of the back stories stay hidden for years for fears of liability and lawsuits. Like the James Remar thing, the full story only came out in part and only in casual conversations, nothing really captured on camera perse. The full story took years to really come out.

Now that 'Aliens Expanded' has been released to backers, many of whom are members here I presume, I'm curious to know what everyone thinks.

I just watched it, and my first impression is that it's quite a slog to get through, coming in at a huge 4 hours and 42 minutes. I can't help but think quite a bit of time could be shaved off that if the flashy chapter transition animations were shorter. There are also a LOT of short clips from Aliens and other films throughout which add to the total run time considerably, but of coursed some are unavoidable as they're included for context.

Overall I was disappointed at how little new information was included; for the most part the content was a rehash of everything that's been said before in some way or other on various DVD 'making of' documentaries etc. - the only plus side really is that it's all condensed (if you can call a 4 plus hour documentary condensed!) into one place I suppose, but by & large it contains information that true Aliens fans should already know.

That said it was good to hear from Matt Winston about his dad's work, plus author Alan Dean Foster, sound department member Graham Hartstone and model maker John Lee; although he didn't speak about any of the models he built. Similarly visual effects supervisor Rober Skotak was featured here and there but gave no insights into his work on Aliens, instead just speaking about the film and its impact in general.

Hmm, interesting. I've only watched the 1st 20min ish so far (and some of the credits, of course), as was digging it.
Certainly was expecting the early part of this doc to be ppl talking about the film's cultural & person impact, but that's slightly disappointed to hear that some interviewee opportunities weren't better utilised around their production experiences, ah well, still looking forward to watching the whole thing.

Also, bonus points for retrogarde's mo ... :D
