The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm really hoping to be able to visit the GA Aquarium again this Con (Because I like fish. And they have WHALE SHARKS!), but the official D*C Aquarium night clashes with the Colonial Marine dinner.

Does anyone have anything planned for Thursday or Monday, because I was thinking that since nothing really goes on at Con on Thursday until later in the day, to maybe try to get a visit in on Thursday morning (they open at 10, so it's not TOO early). Or Monday morning would be an option, too.

Google Maps says it's only a half mile, so it's walking distance, and the website says it's about $30 admission.

Anyone else interested?

I like fish too, but I learned with High Velocity's ribs that your portions are insane, no way could I eat a whole whale shark. Anyone wanna go halfers?

My wife and I have done the aquarium for two years straight on the Thursday (I think Wednesday the year before) and highly recommend it.

Leave plenty of time. Not to see the whole aquarium but to sit in front of the ocean view window because you won't want to leave.

As for directions:
Literally out of the Hyatt and turn right, first left at the liquor store and its down the hill....right there.
The Dolphin show is great...to see the dolphins. The human portion....well its camp but still entertaining.

If you've not done it before, I highly recommend it....its truly amazing.

I am totally down to go as Recondo (or Jungle Recon in AFT) to the aquarium. I'll bring a good camera, because I have some undersea exploring to do. HELL YEAH!

(I want to do a little live action version of that! So this would have to happen probably on Thursday, before I shave my mustache for the USCM.)

We're up for it! Also, if you are/were in the military ask about their discount! We can also keep a lookout for groupon or amazon local deals to get a better price... If your birthday is that Thursday, you can get in for free... Aaaand if 25 or more of us go, there's a group discount and that takes the price down to about $28

If there's nothing else I need to be doing on Thursday I'm down for a trip to aquarium. Hell, I'm part fish anyway. Well, at least I used to drink like one. Let's do it!

I'm excited so many people want to go! Aaron, I can email them and ask about being allowed to wear costumes if you really want, but as it'll just be a regular day visit I'm not sure how thrilled they'd be about it. I'm really tempted to bring my mermaid tail if they'll let me, but I'm not sure I want to deal with the hoards of children so I might pass. I'll see how I feel about it once I hit the beach a few times this spring/summer.

I didn't think about Groupon/Living Social! I know sometimes they do giveaways on their FaceBook page, too, so you should keep your eyes open!

I've seen photos from DragonCon albums where there's mermaids and other costumers, like that thing from the BioShock game. Of course ask ahead, because maybe they can only accommodate us on a slow day, if we're in costume.

And being an aquarium, I'm sure there's a policy against firearms, real or fake, with or without a CCW permit. As you could imagine, one bad shot could cause millions of dollars in damage!

That huge amazing BioShock shoot was prearranged with the Aquarium and IIRC either before or after normal hours. The other photos you see are most likely from official Dragon*Con night at the aquarium -- always Saturday night -- when they welcome all the costumers and even have cash bars set up and a DJ. I went in 2011; it was a lot of fun.

I'm in too. I loved it when I went last year, especially the dolphin show.

So, is this still happening?

If not, I'm probably going on Thursday morning anyway and anyone is free to tag along.

What are those of you NOT going to the meal doing?

Tentatively, me, Lauren, Boltie and Stew are doing the official Aquarium night in steampunk/Splicer gear ( Since the Abney Park/Prof Elemental shows are that night too... )

I'm going to the meal so the official night isn't an option.

I'm not going to be offended if no one wants to come with me.

I would like to join on Thursday after getting my D*Con badge.

I'm totally down for going on Thursday. I need some photos of me as Recondo in the aquarium next to sharks for the website and facebook page. Can anyone work a highend Canon camera?

There are some places that you absolutely can not have any shooting. Such as in an aquarium, or right below the primary heat exchangers on an atmospheric processor. I think I saw that in a movie one time.

Girlspectre went to the official D*Con visit a few years ago, but I never made it. I'd very much like to see the aquarium, but I can't justify taking time away from the con. Something like Thursday evening though would be great.

Keep in mind they close at 5 during regular hours, so "evening" isn't much of an option.
