The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Why would someone buy one to this upcoming November? I guess I don't understand how this thing works.

This is for DragonCon in August/September. The longer you wait to buy admission, the higher the price goes. $65 if you bought it at the con the year before, $120 if you wait and buy it at the door.

Fuck it...put me down. I'm going to need some guidance on pretty much anything and everything as I've just started putting together a costume bit by bit.

I also don't know what hotels around the are are recommended and all the details on these, and I will definitely be coming to this event alone, unless something really crazy happens and someone decides to go to Atlanta with me. So, I'd definitely have to share a room with someone.

gman666- membership bought no room yet.
SgtTony - no membership, hotel booked (offsite)
Hudson JM - no membership, no room

Sheesh, how do you fill out the leave request for this?

"SNM respectfully requests to take a period of leave...to dress up as a fictional Marine." Hah, how does the ORM form for that one read? :P

I would probably drop it as Atlanta and DragonCon and no more.

But I have had to drop leave for some of our larger (and farther away) reenactments and told them exactly what I was doing (reenacting in a WW2 tactical event at blah)

Besides thats less leave for my terminal so more work they (sorta) get out of me. And since I've missed about 3-4 years of DC's, I'm making this one hell or high water.

One of my bosses is kind of judgmental on the whole geeks/convention thing. I'm also in a small company, so they always ask what I'll be doing, etc, just out of conversation.

I just tell them I'm going to Atlanta for a yearly gathering of a bunch of friends that we do every year, and conveniently leave out the geeking out, costuming, and drunken revelry bit.

I think I have the list updated. Again this is for any members who will be attending DragonCon and not traveling or staying with the UKCM as they have there own thread and have asked that only those sharing rooms/flights add to that list. Please follow the below format and I will keep the list updated in the first post.

Readylline:

gman666 - membership bought, no room
SgtTony - no membership, hotel booked (offsite)
Hudson JM - no membership, no room
Munkey - no membership, no room
Aurora - no membership, no room
gi-rene - membership bought, no room, leave request not dropped (everything of course hinges on the latter)
Chryse - membership bought, no room
LoneScout - no membership, hotel booked
25-serria and bobbleheadedcat - no membership, hotel booked
Russ Krook III - membership bought, no room
Cpl Potter - no membership, hotel booked

Let me know what needs to be changed/updated. I also added the DragonCon link and membership rate increases (Thanks for reminding me Spat).

Thanks!

Greg

Well its a "we must know everything" type of deal. Since I could say (though it were unlikely to happen but this is the scenario they fear) get drunk, make poor decisions, and get in trouble. They want to know exactly what I was up to, so they can say that I actively made poor decisions and burn me for them. OR even innocently getting into an accident or something and them finding out I didn't inform my chain of what I was up to can lead to at least a thorough butt chewing.

One of many ways that grown men and women are treated like children in the military and one of the many "little freedoms" that must be given up. Knowing my command a generic explanation will either get my request denied, or people will decide to ask in detail what I'm going to be doing.

Best to avoid the situation entirely.

What about saying you're doing a military reenactment? And that it only happens once a year.. There's also going to a wedding since at least one or two happen every year even if we don't know the people involved.
