The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well. No info. on that. Typical gas pistols go for around 200 bucks. Koba used to work for MGC. MGC pistols cost around what ? 250. Best guess. May be a little more cause of the tooling and must not be very high volume. We should know something inside couple months.

Don't look now, but actor Pat Morita's (aka Arnold from HAPPY DAYS, Mr. Miyagi from KARATE KID) long lost twin also known as Koba Tanio San has announced an update to his VP-70:

www.taniokoba.co.jp/vp70test.html

It says that the VP-70M is available in April, and the price is 27,000 YEN or about 260 bucks.

I told you anybody who looks like Mr. Miyagi won't let us down!

Woooo Hoooo Marine side arm with blowback and full-auto capable!

I think we can upgrade this rumor to a probable, then to a fact in or around April.

Well, guys I think we can go ahead and upgrade the "Probable" status of the Koba VP-70M to "Almost Certain".

In the April issue of COMBAT magazine, an Airsoft publication out of Japan -- the whole Tanio Koba team was at the 12th Victory Militaria & Toy Gun Show (V-MAT) 2004, where Mr. Koba was in attendance.

The following are just camera shots of the pages of the whole article in preview of the VP-70M with blowback, as my camera is 3 million pixels, while my scanner is $HIT!

I'll try to get my dad to do some translation for me, as I can only read the Kanji, which makes about 40% understanding of the contents. But from the 40% -- it's all good!

;)

Rook, you wouldn't want to miss out on this one. Trust me. This is going to be one fine piece, as in the article -- Koba was talking about his development of the cap gun version for MGC and how it was hampered by under-charged (?) cartridges. So, I think the point that Koba was trying to make was that he learned from his MGC experience, and have come up with a superior design to build this pistol.

This puppy is gas powered like his 10/22 (which sells for about a thousand bucks and uses real furniture). I'm sure you can get extra mags. The mag capacity is 27 rounds, which point towards having full-auto capability (though players like to see 50 rounds as that hi-cap of mags are available for KSC Glock-18 full-autos). It looks like the Koba VP-70M ships with the butt-stock too.

I won't go as far as to say that the Koba VP-70 will out shoot a Western Arms Infinity Pro-killer .45 pistol, but I think for most Marines' requirements -- the blowback feature alone will already have mesmorizing effects like bubbles to that one fish in FINDING NEMO.;)

Damn that's spendy. I could buy a new AEG for that!

Have to decide which is more important I guess... P90 or VP70... Decisions, decisions...

I've never dealt with Tanio Koba product on a regular basis, do they do long production runs or are they mostly limited runs? I wonder how long extra mags and such will be available.

So this is airsoft? Your description made it sound like a cap-style gun.

How much are we looking at in price?

Either way, its quite probable that I'll be buying one.

That's awesome! I love my MGC and KSC Glocks, and my WA Infinity 5" is phenomenal! Regardless of how well this VP-70 shoots, I'll be getting it. I just hope it shoots decent, and the trigger pull isn't too heavy.

I'd imagine the VP-70M with stock would be a popular secondary weapon in the USCM recon/spec ops. Personally I love using my Styer TMP as a side arm, but the clips weigh a ton :(

Yayyy!!! VP-70 in April!!! :D

Ignaut --

This is a BB firing Airsoft pistol. As with any older thread, I guess we have to repeat some of the previous.

Mr. Tanio Koba is an Airsoft gun builder. He had worked for MGC (Model Gun Company) of Japan and had been responsible for amongst other "model guns" or cap guns -- the MGC VP-70 pistol. He retired for a number of years, then came back into AS and started his own company as below. He had been rumored to be working on an Airsoft VP-70, which is apparently almost ready to be introduced to the market in April purportedly for 27,000 Yen.

Scroll down on the left hand column, and click the third from last button, and you can see images of all his products.

Well, let's see how it is first. Yea, a group order would be kewl. I could possibly talk to a shop about this once it is in.

Any volunteers of country managers (who will receive the carton of VP-70's for their respective countries then be responsible for getting them out to the guys) ?

I could prolly do it for the US unless someone else is more inclined.

Figure shipping would be like $12 more for priority with tracking in the USA.

If it comes with the stock, then I could more likely justify (what I consider) the higher cost.

I hate paying more than $125-$150 for a pistol that I'm not even likely to use in a skirmish, or any kind of competition.

Yeah Alex, as far as it's role in the Colonial Marines, I was figuring on much the same thing... Spec Ops/Recon or the P90 (support personnel use) role for shipboard use.

I still think that it could have used the same magic 10mm Explosive tip caseless round like the PR does. Or even a 9mm+P/AP (armor piercing) kind of round.

I wonder how secure that stock/pistol connection will be. I'd hate to be carrying it at a con and have the pistol go bouncing off the floor.

Damn, at this rate I won't have any money left to finish working on my motorcycle. :(

MAA, any chance of getting some _flatter_ images?

What's the cover price on that mag, $14?

Any chance someone could nab me an issue, and the 2004 Guns guide?

Unless of course you carry like 4 mags in with you!

For my Glock 18C (awesome for CQB, and room cleaning) I carry 1 short mag in the gun initially, and 4 additional long mags for it. As for my Steyr TMP, 4 long mags when it's a side arm, 9 when it's my primary (but then I weigh a ton :| ).

Quote:
Quote:I wonder how secure that stock/pistol connection will be.

Hopefully pretty secure. I have a stock made by Carrot for my KSC TMP, and its attachment is not particularly secure. After the first skirmish I never used it again. :( As the VP-70's stock is specifically made for the VP-70 I'm guessing it's pretty solid.

COMBAT goes for 12 bucks or so here in Taipei then there's air mail (10 days). If you guys must have it, send me an email and I'll get it for you.

Flatter image ? Rook, you gonna make me buy a better scanner. That's alright -- I was thinking to and they are cheap now.

$125 for this ?? Nope. Sorry. KSC pistols sell for more. Koba is making the pistol in Japan, and Big Macs cost 12 bucks there.

Remember that Blade Runner blaster was $450. But usually, by the time it hits the shops in Hong Kong, the retail will be slightly lower.

Listen Marines -- it's this Koba VP-70M or the resin one.

I'd be interested in the group order too. Gun (with stock) and two extra mags. ;)

I wonder what metal parts it's going to have...

I know what your thinking. Did he fire 95 shots or only 94. To tell you the truth, the counter's broke and in all the excitment I've kind of lost track myself. But since this is a M41A Pulse Pulse, the most powerful automatic rifle in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do you, punk?

How about just the internals, as I believe even the real steel VP-70 was all plastic (check it out, somebody).

I believe it's been already discussed in the past, but the VP70's frame was polymer, but the slide was metal.

It wouldn't suprise me if the gun is mostly plastic, and if popular, a metal slide/barrel kit is released later.

Rook, got your books. Check your Ez Inbox.

Alex -- did you still need the No. 4 COMBAT with the VP-70 article ??

BTW everyone -- I've talked to the shop that carried the Japanese Blade Runner Blaster in Hong Kong (check that link) CMC or something, but anyways they seem to have the latest everything plus they already sell the Tanio Koba 10/22 rifles. But the shop seems pretty eager to get our order for this. So, yeah a group order on the Koba VP-70M is definitely possible. One thing is clear -- if we can organize a group order, we will get it faster (and quite possibly cheaper) than would waiting for US/UK dealers to get this piece in stock.

So. let's see what happens in April.

We still need UK country manager volunteer in the event we do this ...

That's great!

So, at this point: We have Os handling all UK parties, and Rook handling all US parties. I will handle in-country and co-ordinate the 'order' (should that come to be).

In theory, it will go something like this: Next month, the Koba VP-70 will be released in Japan. Usually, shortly after the gun will be available in Hong Kong. Something with this much attraction, I anticipate it will be widely available. And probably some time down the road people will be able to order it off the Internet. But, the 'group order' still make sense to do, and has the following advantage: 1). Negotiating power for mulitiple units to get better than published or in store price. 2). The sharing of shipping cost could potentially lower the shipping cost as a group, as the country's order will arrive to the country manager and get shipped out (or picked up in person where possible). I don't know about the UK, but in the U.S. we can just use Priority Mail to re-ship to other domestic destinations, and for gas pistols it shouldn't be too bad.

But we will be able to see how this will work (if it still make sense to do) after the gun makes it's debut next month.

In the mean time, if someone has suggestions (or better ideas) for how this can work better ...

We can also start a new thread once we know we are going to do the 'group order'.
