The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

As I've said in other threads I found you guys at Dragon*Con and was frankly elated to find that the fandom for this movie is still there. I've always felt my love for this movie kind of made me an odd-ball. Like Star Trek nerds go 'Wow, that guy likes Aliens?'

Not that I really mind, I build robots in my spare time and do anti-radar work for the military for a living, so I am used to being 'in a social hole.'

After talking to some of you though I am completely convinced I want to get an Airsoft M41A, the two of you at the bench at Dragon*Con showed me that gun and while I did not have the cash to throw at it at the time I just think it would be so cool to have one... And a set of armor.

First thing is first though, what kind of recommendations do you guys have as to where to get one (I've seen them on G&P and Airsoft Extreme)? How complicated is the conversion?

Just any advice you can give me as a future buyer would be immensly appreciated.

The G&P kit is fairly rare (and can be sold for anything between $300-$500), so have a good search around before buying.

The kit comes with an assembly guide, but you can supplement that with my guide (as the pics are larger/clearer) linked in my sig.
Take care with using the right bolts screws though, as I messed up on mine and ran out of the correct bolts to hold the shroud together, ending up glueing it to keep it fixed.

The actual fitting of the kit around the airsoft Thompson is easy, just make sure you have a decent set of screwdrivers and hex keys before you start. 8)

Hey Gauss, more than likely you spoke with me at Dragon*Con....I was the one with the lack of voice if it was Saturday or after.

You've come to the right place though....Pulse Rifles are our speciality

Just an FYI but the airsoft one at the con didn't sell but as you're already on SciFiHero I'm sure you know it was his rifle that was for sale.

PVB:

That guide is flipping awesome!

What is your opinion of the Airsoft Extreme kit though? Do you know much about it?

Are the kits generally well constructed? If I'm gonna drop 3-5 bills on something, I don't want it to be a shoddy piece of crappy plastic.

Actually yeah, I looked at your pic in the D*Con thread. We did indeed speak!

If its the G&P kit, itll be of a decent quality. The shrouds on mine were a little creaky and, like PVB, I too ran out of the right kind of screws.

However I loved it while I had it.

From the description on their site, the one Airsoft Extreme are seliing is the one known as the G&P kit. :)

There are other sites that list an 'Airsoft M41A Pulse Rifle Kit', but best to check if anyone actually has any in stock before paying your money.

If that is true, I love you... You may have just saved me 100 USD if this other site has it in stock.

Are you sure though? they list different manufacturers.

This site seems to report it's the same kit:

http://www.plecterlabs.com/catalog/arti ... anguage=en

It certainly looks the same.

But maybe others on here can confirm/deny?

Well let me ask you this... One says its made from "high quality resin molding," the other says "ABS Fiber Plastic."

I am a total noob when it comes to this, but is this a difference? Other than that specific thing, I can't find any differences.

Parts of the G&P kit are ABS/other plastics, such as the shroud:

Other parts, such as the stock, are resin:

Also, if memory serves correct, earlier G&P kits used resin/fibreglass shrouds, so it's all a bit hit and miss. :|

PVB:

I really appreciate you answering me, and my apologies if my questions come accross as silly.

Is there are difference in the materials? Is Resin better than ABS Plastic?

What I am getting at is I am trying to figure out if something is different about these two kits to warrant the extra almost 100 USD

Resin is a generic term, but most people relate it to Garage kits with soft tooling.

This Kit is injection molded ABS. Very durable.

Only weak points are the stock locking mech and Mag bottom holder.

Which one do you think I should buy then?

After shipping the difference in price is negligible because the site selling what they claim is the G&P kit ships from China, and Airsoft Extreme appears to ship from CA based on their shipping charges.

I had mine shipped from China... you'll pay a lot for the shipping though, but they guaranteed that they had a kit in stock. The US shops I looked at the time were always "backordered" or "in stock soon". I didn't have the patience or the level of risk of not getting the two or three kits they'll have on hand. As most people will tell you and what I've read, the kits are rare these days.

AEX has them listed as "in stock", so I'd order from there. Overseas shipping is a minimum of twice what you'd pay via UPS.
