The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Mine was (I think) £90, the guy didn't know what it was and it was old stock with the wrong instructions. The service was about half that again, not exactly money well-spent!

joeranger - These probably aren't what you have in mind, but feel free to check out my 'approximation' of Ripley's Flightsuit (ALIEN) as well as my first attempted 'DALLAS' Jacket construction.

If I may be honest I don't like any of them.
Dallas jacket has pockets where they shouln't be. The flightsuit main problem is that the collar should have pointy tips and not a round shape like in modern flight suits.
I hope that my critics are accepted with no offence and that they may help you to make a more accurate product.

ndatmo did state that they were an "approximation" of the costumes and I think they're a very good attempt.

I'm guessing that Italian is your first language Jonesythecat. Really a comment like "If I may be honest I don't like any of them" has a high chance of being interpreted as an insult, no matter how much you don't intend it to be. Offering constructive criticism is of course fine but we all have to be aware not only of what we write but how others might interpret it.

Yes Italian is my first language and I did not intend to offend. My criticism is constructive because I pointed out what was wrong in them, I didn't just say that I didn't like them for the sake of saying it. Can you see my point?
Anyway I must add that I missed the "approximation" part... so, apologies. I'm quite an accuracy-nutcases when it comes to costumes, if you need any help to improve the product, ndatmo, feel free to contact me.

PS I still don't understand how it could be interpreted differently but, as I said, English is not my first language.

No problem Jonesey. :)

I suppose in situations like this it's a good idea to be diplomatic in terms of opinions; particularly where one of our own has put time, money and effort into making something they're proud of. It'd be different if the discussion was about a new design of car or something, that's way more distant in terms of being related to the AL board.

It's kind of like saying to a friend "No offence, but your wife is ugly". ;)

Hope that makes sense.

Harry

Don't worry about it, Jonesythecat* - I'm not offended. I am well aware of the million differences. These are done 'in the spirit of' ALIEN Nostromo. I have zero interest in sewing so these constructions are just 'impressions' of the Flightsuit and Jacket. It would be an extremely pricey matter to accurately duplicate film wardrobe designed highly-paid experts to be worn by actors portraying fictional characters. I'm poor so I bought what I could find and afford. And five people who wore theirs indicated that their 'costumes' went over well at the events they attended. (One guy wore his with ALIEN Reeboks from a later sequel, but I hope no one walked up to him at a fun Halloween party and took him to task for his footgear or told him "Dude, you are way too tall to play that character! And you should have the Engineer Pin, not the Executive Pin and it's way too close too the Weylan(d)-Yutani wings anyway." :)

You probably can't tell but I am also a detail stickler...for instance, it pains me greatly that I can't duplicate the distinctive lacings on the jacket and flightsuits. You're absolutely right that the flightsuits 'should' have pointy collars to match those in the film, but since these are Viet Nam era suits from the 70's, they don't.

*I was called "Jonesy" all the way through grammar school...but that was long before ALIEN.

Thank you, your Ripleyness. #:) I was really happy to spot the 'trashed' khaki jacket after months of looking in my local Thrift Store. It probably belonged to someone who used it as an outdoor mechanic's work jacket...just the thing for the Space Tug/Refinery look! I have mixed feelings about 'distressing' the too-new looking patches, feeling that anyone who might 'adopt' the flightsuits or jackets would complain that it was actual dirt and not a simulation. Now if only a couple Casio F-100 watches would show up at the same store.

On a related subject, I recently saw a photo of a woman who had made a really beautiful 'Ripley Suit' and worn it to a San Diego Convention. She did a first class job, but in her photo she appeared in a crisply-ironed, super tidy flightsuit...it just seemed so strange given the rumpled, wrinkly look of the Crew in ALIEN.

I believe I think I saw pictures of that costume on the RPF, I liked the costume even if ironed-looking lol. Lucky ones those few who have an original flightsuit from that period.

If these are the ones on Ebay, I am definitely getting one.. these are awesome. Sure the pockets are a bit off, but they are not a MK3. They really capture the look!

Here is how Danita's (ALIEN) version of Ripley turned out. Thanks to Montana (Jeff) the patches rock and we work together and got the G-4B suit.
She pulled it off nicely I think.

I salute you! (Kind of an ALIEN Ripley/GALAXY QUEST Tawny Madison Hybrid.) G-4B is the Secret Recipe and it's all about the lacings. I don't know how you located it but I aspire to finding some (or one) someday. Thanks for the photos, stephen210.

Glad I'm not the only male liking Ripley's gear. It's not as if I would attend a convention dressed in full Ripley gear... but as I said I think what she wears is really cool.
I interviewed the man that actually made the costume for Alien and Aliens but for some reason I forgot to mention the jumpsuit from the second film. Does anyone know if it's a military issue item or if it was custom made for the film?

I noticed that no one replied here. I also wondered if Ripley costume in Aliens was custom made or it was military issue, considering the pockets placement it might be proper flying suit, does anyone have knowlegde here?

I’ve seen one of the Ripley jumpsuits in person and I own one that Lance Henriksen wore as Bishop. They both look custom made to me.
