I picked this up from Dick's, the green is a little darker and it's tan on the other side.
What do you think?

it's a camping pad, and it's 5/8" thick. It has the pattern on both sides, but as ayou can see the one side is tan/off white. Probably have to split it since it's so thick. If you are not worried about color, you could use both sides. Down side, it was $20, so I'm not sure shipping would be a good idea. I could bring some to DC I guess. I wouldn't call $20 a "downside", if it's accurate, I'd be willing to pay that much. And the tan side would be easy to fix, just soak it in some watered down acrylic paint of appropriate shade. Any chance of getting a link? |

Just slit it in half, and remove the tan side. Then you'll have the correct thickness. Nice find! |

I managed to cut out pieces for 2 sets of armor, with some left over. When I get home I will take some pictures. If you are careful, you will also have the white foam to use. I used a long razor knife, (the kind that you keep breaking off parts, it was the only thing long enough) and was able to cut it very nicely, I cut the shapes first and then split it. I supposed a serrated bread knife would work well too, we used those in the old days of making foam swords

An electric knife will work very good as will a "Wonder Cutter" or any hot wire cutting tool. I've used both when making Halloween props before. http://wolfstone.halloweenhost.com/HalloweenTech/fotbuy_CommercialFoamTools.html this will get you on the path. Sam |

I did some of the layer separating, and while the blade worked well enough, it definitely was kind of dull and made my fingers a bit raw. A bread knife really would have been just the thing. |

Just an FYI for using the foam, be carefull when you clamp it. since what is now the back is "open", the glue holds it down. I have a ton of clamp marks now. For the next piece, I will put a piece of plastic or card board down first

I have one of the green mil-camping mats. As most of us know, the thing is at minimum 3-4x as thick as you want it to be on the armor. How are you all cutting the thickness down, and what method are you using to mount it to the armor? Spray glue? Rubber cement? Royal jelly? Related question, what glue/adhesive type are you using to mount Noble's neck trim and "mud flap" kits? Thanks, Russ |

I would use the contact cement for the foam and vinyl trimmings. YES:  not the water based stuff. NO
