Since I've *FINALLY* got headset parts in silicone again, have we ever figured out what color the headset is? Harry? For that matter, what color should the breastplate really be? :)

Hmm... actually looking into it a little further I think they may have been painted Brown Bess originally but in a lot of shots nearly all the paint has come off, am I right?

They look to be black fibreglass or vacuum formed plastic underneath.

The headset is Humbrol Brown Bess with some black details (probably the BB simply rubbed off), however I'm not sure about the breastplate.

Cheers,
Stefan

Yep, as Stefan said the headset is definitely Brown Bess.

The breastplates look like they're matt black, possibly buffed up a little to take some of the 'dulness' off if that makes sense.

Hadn't seen those pics, Stefan. Thanks :)

And thanks for the color info on the headset! I'm not convinced about the breastplate though...I *do* know what you mean about buffing though, Harry. That's how I painted the grip frame on my VP70 :D

To me it looks more black than green, even the subtle 'green' that Brown Bess sometimes looks like.

Plus it looks like it matches what is probably black gaffers tape on the 'ears' of the breastplate (at the top).

I'm thinking particularly of the 'in the ready room' scene here.

Breastplate is brown bess. The Quadrilogy DVD will confirm this.

I think it was repainted several times.

Are there any screenshots of this Vasquez plate from the movie? I think it there may be noticable differences between the Atmos. Processor and Sulaco scenes.

Well I'll be dipped in sheep dip...Yeah, I think you're right Harry. Was just looking at the DVD and my screen-caps some more. That photo of yours is just about the kicker though, 'cause it *clearly* shows the color difference.

It was Dan who nailed it really.

I just never noticed it before, that's a lot of paint that's come off!

Could it also be because some of the scenes were filmed out of sequence?

Some of the AP station footage was shot early on when James Remar was still cast as Hicks, so it would be logical to assume that the breastplates would have been in a better condition than in scenes filmed later on.

Dan: Thank you, too, for the info :)

Absolutely. It's a very common practice in film making. Also, it's pretty obvious in some places because in some shots Vasquez's breastplate has a crack, split, or seam at the left shoulder connector, and other scenes she doesn't. Or it's not as obvious at least.

Here's the crack I'm talking about:

And here it's not ;)

It's also not there during the locker room scene, IIRC. I don't have one of those screencaps posted, and I don't have the DVD here at work with me ;)

Cinefex gives the order of shooting. The hive was first so it would suggest not only a repaint but also a repair.

There may also be a change in the writing (font and spelling) on the plate but it may be hard to spot on film.
