Here are some images of the Smartgun in its original form as it appeared in Aliens back in 1986. The first three photos are from the Fox Archives, the fourth one of the top-view was probably taken at the same session. The final image was of course taken on set at the time of filming.










Lastly in this image, photographed in 2001, you can see that the writing on the side seems to be a mixture of the words 'Adios' and 'My Bitch'; indicating that the same piece had been repainted for use by the other character at some point during filming.
