The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: MarsCon Drop?? March 6-8, 2009 - Minnesota

I'm wondering if anyone is interested in organizing a drop for MarsCon 2009.

I've been going to MarsCon since it started and always had a good time there. It's a small 'con in comparison to most, but I think that's part of what makes it fun.

Location: Bloomington, Minnesota
Dates: March 6-8, 2009
Website: www.marscon.org

Anyone interested?

rook told me about this ,and i have been seriously considering it ,as i live in wisconsin (not to far away ) but i only troop as aa colonial marine ,and it would be cool to see others, what is the convention like . is it kid friendly ? what is the night life like ? my only con experience was d-con , i know its not that big. and i would like something a little more kid friendly .

Sounds good - Rook is a friend of mine, he can vouch for the 'con.

Dayside is pretty kid friendly. There are panel discussions which
may or may not be interesting. There was at least one room with
Anime running all day, and another that had Guitar Hero of some
sort.

The evening 'Dementia' music track is a bit wilder with some PG-13
language and situations, but still fun.

The Nightlife is... similar... to Dragoncon, but a bit milder. It IS
winter in Minnesota after all. ;)

There are plenty of party rooms available to get festive in and it's a hotel so obviously there's sleeping rooms on site. :)

I'm planning on running a Stargate Costuming panel, and there's always hanging out in the Propatorium (my second (or is it 3rd?) home. :)

For additional info, feel free to check out the Con website, posted above.

And here's a link to my Marscon photobucket pics from the last couple years. 2007 is subdivided into 2 different days/times, day and evening...

That's a good question! I don't know of anyone who does childcare
at the con, but since I don't have kids needing care, I can't say it was ever a concern of mine.

We took my Grandson last year (who was 11 then, almost 12) and we ended up turning in early and missing most of the 'night life.'

You could possibly e-mail the con asking about such a thing.

Nice. It would be sweet to have a full USCM presence at marscon.

The most I've ever seen there has been 2... and I was one of them. ;)

And the other guy is more of a Trek fan, and he's associated with the MSP trek group and hasn't appeared here dispite the invite.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

We'll be there unless her uncle gets worse. He's in the hospital with pneumonia... again. :(

We're all paid up, plus I have a panel discussion to lead on Sunday.

Won't be bringing the PR sadly, as I just don't have enough time to get it working. :(

Worked on it Sunday for another 4 or 5 hours and I'm only marginally farther along than I was last week.

The Grenade Launcher grip attachment is giving me fits. :(

I'm here as well. Friday night look for Col. Sheppard from SG- Atlants.
Tomorrow AM to early afternoon I'll be the clean-ish shaven Indy. Afternoon will be SG-1 gear for a while. Probably USCM BDUs tomorrow night.

Feel free to give me a call.

Potter... was your wife wearing a blue WY shirt?

Also, check out the propatopia in room 306.

It was great to see you at the con! I'm only sorry we couldn't
hang out more. Perhaps another time! And your kids were great
too! It was nice to see a future Colonial Marine in attendance! :)

I talked to one of the con members/managers on Sunday and she
and her (I think husband) crew did USCM at CONvergence I
believe last year. She gave me her card so I'll be contacting her
and inviting them to the 'Legacy.

She said they didn't have Sparmor (she couldn't remember whose
armor they purchased) but they did custom paint theirs and went
with the Multicam BDUs.

And in a bit of 'What the heck-ery'... I was wearing my SG-1 gear
when I was pictured with Cpl.Potter... but when I ran my Stargate
costuming panel on Sunday... I was wearing my USCM BDUs.

So I did represent the USCM at the con for part of the time.

Also, apparently attendance was down this year because there
was a scheduling CON-flict (yes, pun intended) with another con in
the area... but at least the weather was good unlike previous
years.

Again, it was great seeing you and your family there if even for a
brief time!

@ErikMAA: Erik, do you have any pics of you in your Ghost Recon
uniform/gear? I didn't have the camera with me when I saw you
Saturday night but from what I remember your uniform looked
sweet!

Thanks!

Russ
