what is the policy for checking your luggage ,the way it sounds you have to have the luggage going under the plane inspected ? the last time i flew this wasn't the case ,and i have never been to a con before so what should i do / prepare for ?

Not sure if I understand the question. All checked luggage in the US nowadays is subject to search by the NSA. I did some TV liveshots from an inspection room once, and what they do is x-ray the luggage as they go along the conveyors and flag certain ones to be routed to stations where they are searched by hand (and swiped with some baby-wipe like thing that detects explosive material residue). If you're packing gun-shaped props you need to declare that when you check the luggage so there's no surprises.

You're not supposed to lock it. At the counter they have zip-tie thingies you can use if you want to make sure the zipper or clasp doesn't come undone accidentally, but the inspectors have every luggage key imaginable and will break them open if they have to.

Tell them you have a gun in your luggage. That you plan to sneak into the luggage area get your gun and hold the passengers ransom for a pillow, blanket, peanuts, and a soda. With the extra charges that should make it a felony just by dollar amount.

No.. really that is a good question.. Since I will have to do this next year unless I drive from WA. Armor, VP-70, PR, MT. Can you just imagine the look on the face of the guy looking at the x-ray screen.

I am flying out of Memphis and have already been in touch with both TSA and Delta. Hunters travel all the time. I am either shipping my guns by UPS or putting them all in one case. When I check in I am to inform the ticket agent as to what it is and why I am checking it in. I am supposed to call the TSA a couple days before my flight out. No clear determination on Con "guns" so look at both and contact the airport!

The key regulatory requirements to transporting firearms, firearm parts or ammunition in checked baggage are:

You must declare all firearms to the airline during the ticket counter check-in process.

The firearm must be unloaded.

The firearm must be in a hard-sided container.

The container must be locked. A locked container is defined as one that completely secures the firearm from access by anyone other than you. Cases that can be pulled open with little effort do not meet this criterion. The pictures provided here illustrate the difference between a properly packaged and an improperly packaged firearm.

We recommend that you provide the key or combination to the security officer if he or she needs to open the container. You should remain present during screening to take the key back after the container is cleared. If you are not present and the security officer must open the container, we or the airline will make a reasonable attempt to contact you. If we can't contact you, the container will not be placed on the plane. Federal regulations prohibit unlocked gun cases (or cases with broken locks) on aircraft.

You must securely pack any ammunition in fiber (such as cardboard), wood or metal boxes or other packaging that is specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.

You can't use firearm magazines/clips for packing ammunition unless they completely and securely enclose the ammunition (e.g., by securely covering the exposed portions of the magazine or by securely placing the magazine in a pouch, holder, holster or lanyard).

You may carry the ammunition in the same hard-sided case as the firearm, as long as you pack it as described above.

You can't bring black powder or percussion caps used with black-powder type firearms in either your carry-on or checked baggage.

We and other authorities strictly enforce these regulations. Violations can result in criminal prosecution and civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation.

Airlines may have their own additional requirements on the carriage of firearms and the amount of ammunition that you may have in your checked baggage. Therefore, travelers should also contact the airline regarding its firearm and ammunition carriage policies.

Also, please note that many other countries have different laws that address transportation and possession of firearms. If you are traveling internationally, please check with the authorities at your destination about their requirements.

You cannot bring markers (aka Paintball Guns) in your carry-on luggage. Pack them in your checked baggage. We do not consider paintball guns to be firearms and you can pack them in unlocked, soft or hard sided luggage.

Please also read our section on compressed gas cylinders for more information. Traveling with compressed gas cylinders.

Please note: Many of the seals/regulators used in paintball are not designed for the end user to remove from their cylinders. Only a factory trained technician should remove or reinstall the seal/regulator.

You cannot bring paintball guns in your carry-on luggage. Pack them in your checked baggage.

If you are considering air travel with a compressed air or CO2 system, you should contact the manufacturer of the system for help finding a qualified technician. You should also consider having a parcel service ship the system to your destination.

Can not stress this enough.
Contact the airport.
Do not try and sneak anything!

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist.

You can also buy straps and padlocks that have a special locking mechanism that the TSA US authorities can use to unlock it, where they have done so a little plastic 'flag' pops up to show you afterwards that the case has been opened/inspected.
