The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Considering we're so strong in numbers at D-Con this year we should definitely try to arrange a photo shoot. The UKCM had a great set of photos taken at the first Sci-fi weekend in Leicester and it'd be great to do the same in Atlanta.

As there are so many of us it's going to be hard to get everyone together at the same time, so I wonder if it would make it easier if we pre arrange a time and place to meet up, and perhaps arrange a non-marine photographer (i.e. a friend with experience and a good camera) to get a group shot.

Any ideas?

Harry

Currently looking Pre or Post parade would get most of us together.

We could do it like the 501st does it, which is to take that shot in the hour prior to the parade as we're setting up. There's some good open space for a large group shot at the start point, and you will have most of us dressed up already.

Pre parade not a good idea honestly way too early. Even the pics of us standing around waiting for it to start are not terribly organized.

Last year we did it pre-colony sweep and that was the best. We did have less than a handful missing that weren't at the parade... but still.

But this year there's gonna be 60 of us, so doubt we'd get anywhere near that many doing a colony sweep. :?

What about after the parade?

Also, we need to do it outdoors so that the light's good enough for a fast shutter speed (blur-free) image, as I couldn't enlarge the Leicester one bigger than A4 without it looking fuzzy. :?

As Jay mentioned, the staging area of the parade has the best spots for taking group photos. We usually end up waiting for the parade to get organized for over half an hour- so it would give a bit of time (not much mind you) for some pics.

Right after the parade is another good time, but we will definitely look a little battle weary with the Atlanta heat. And we won't have the same backdrop unless we choose to walk back to the parade staging grounds.

There are some decent outdoor locations around the hotels as well (just up the street from the Hyatt if I recall).

Another thing about after the parade- someone will have to remain behind to watch our fan table. The parade itself is the only time the D-Con staff allow the fan tables to be unmanned. Otherwise someone must be manning the table at all times.

The D-Con staff is completely anal about this and we actually received a warning about leaving the table alone back in 2006.

My choice would be before the parade.

Before the parade.
Everyone knows where, when and we have time to kill while they organise.

We'll of course also have the usual photo shoots before the sweep etc, but the pre-parade spot is too perfect.

50 Marines- Photoshoot for the Ages-

One place- The Sunburst Bldg- curved steps in a futuristic bldg setting. Very popular. Rebel Legion- BSG-LOH all have plans to take group pics there.

Kev, there should be some allowances for time after the parade before the fan table has to be manned. After the parade would be the best time. We're all together and charged up. The steps would be best to stagger us all and see each other, better than on a flat street. 8)

If D-Con doesn't give us any static about the table (or if someone is willing to man it while we are out) I'd go for after the parade as well.

Another option (again only if D-Con complains about the table)- is to have two people switch manning it so everyone can be in some of the shots. I volunteer for one of those shifts. :)

Well another option about PRE parade... we could always ask a member of another fan group if they would nicely take a pic or two so all of us have a chance to be in at least a pic and none of us is left out.

Good points there.

Also it'd be nice to secure the use of a hi res (i.e. many megapixel - prefereably digital SLR) camera, so if we know anyone who will be bringing such a beast let's round 'em up!

Mine's not an SLR, but it is rather good quality:

Images come out at 3648x2736 which should be good enough. 8)

I was not so much charged up as drenched with sweat and bedraggled. I couldn't get back to the room to shower and change fast enough. I don't think we'll look our best at that time.

For any of the USCM SSTers, thoughts on the steps by the fountain and that goofy statue thing down the road from the Hyatt?

Pre or post is fine with me. Pre is good as you have the energy and anticipation revving you up. Plenty of time to kill and what not. Post allows for any stragglers but we've tended to disperse a bit in past years at the step off point. Either way though I'm there, can't miss a meet up this big.

We could always do a shoot pre and post parade of course in case anything goes wrong, people are late etc.

I don't think as many of us will be assembled together at one time again so it'd be good to take more photos than we need rather than not enough.

Harry
