March 13-15, Raleigh, North Carolina Anyone else planning on going? I do not see much love for the Wizardworld Cons on here or the RPF. I am hitting it up as filler this year since I can't do Dragoncon again until next year. [MOD EDIT : Removed irrelevant and possibly malware-ridden links. Not me. Sorry I just do not attend any Wizard event as I think they are just money grab events. Thanks! Greg |

I got bummed out on wizard world after i paid 55 bucks for one day and it seemed like there wasnt as much going on as with raleigh supercon/galaxyon. Ill go though if people are going, not enough cons around to be picky. |

I am finding that there is a big uptick in these sort of events as actors are getting older, and folks are realizing a successful convention can net you a couple of million after expenses when done properly. As such there are a lot of new cons and it is taking away from the established ones and making things seem not quite as large as they once were. Things are getting to a point where it is scaring off some of the bigger names and they are being more careful to vet out new and unheard of events with ever more scrutiny. The trick is to find events that have, stars, vendors, and other events mixed in and enough room to accommodate anyone that wants to attend. Unfortunately the cities are starting to see the revenue streams that they can make and they are actually making it expensive to host events in city owned/managed buildings. So in short, know the con. Be very careful about new ones. My rule of thumb going forward is to not attend events unless the hotel is attached. |
