Those of you who have actually met Trevor or keep in contact with him...what the hell is Mark Rolston talking about? I'd actually like to hear Steedman's reaction.

Trevor has an interesting past, yes. I don't think 15 years or the exact story is anywhere near correct though.

I've found that one sure way to impress an actor and get a friendly response from them is to know, and discuss, their work outside of their big part in your favorite film, because it's likely that's all they ever hear about.  They tend to be proud of the small films they do, and love to be appreciated for the diversity of their work.

Twenty years ago, at my first con (I-Con on Long Island), my buddy got to meet Andrew J. Robinson.  At the time, he played Garak on Star Trek DS9.  Before the signing, my buddy and I talked about his performance in a Liberace bio pic, and his role as the Scorpio Killer in the first Dirty Harry.

When Rob got to the table to meet him, he asked about those roles, before getting all fan boy on Star Trek.

Robinson was really pleased, and genuinely impressed that someone knew him outside of DS9.  "You know, no ones asked me about anything other than Star Trek, today?  Thank you, so very much!"

So, yeah. It makes an impression when a fan knows other bits of their work.

Sounds like the con was amazing, though. I'd have loved to sit in on the Near Dark panel!

I totally agree. If you know about an obscure role the actor has done it is really worth mentioning, especially if it was a labor of love or indie film. I once met Christopher Heyerdahl (who is best known for genre work like Blade: Trinity and Chronicles of Riddick) and praised him for his performance in a miniseries about the Nuremberg trials. He actually looked like he was going to cry he was so flattered!

Really, it shows the performer the difference between a fan of the work, and a fan of the actor.

Nothing wrong with either, mind you. But there is a difference.

And, to them, knowing that they are appreciated for more than their turn in one or two films is huge. Look at Alan Rickman's character in Galaxy Quest, or Leonard Nimoy's first auto biography "I Am Not Spock."

That's true. Also, Beihn's directorial debut "The Victim" was probably getting absolutely no attention from anyone in the question department, and as he's a working actor and more interested on what he's doing now than what he has done, it was probably kind of depressing for him that no one really seemed to care. Jennifer Blanc was sitting next to him (because she's in that movie and they seem to be an item), but no one really talked to her or got autographs from her that I noticed.

So yeah, if I would've said "I loved Lords of Discipline" (which I haven't seen) or something else, I may have gotten some brownie points for about 30 seconds. :P
