The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Yes. Back in the pre-internet days, most of the unliscenced resin kits were made by hobbyists. This evolved the colloquial garage kit to refer to kits made in somebody's garage (as opposed to a professional studio). Now it is a general term to mean that style of kit whether or not it was made by a hobbyist or a professional.

If it was anything like last year, approximately in November.

Most hotels won't accept reservations until 10 or 11 months ahead of time, so it makes a bit of sense. I confirmed November with a friend of mine who went to D*Con this year also.

I've booked my Hyatt room already. Con rate.

Call, let them know there will be a con rate and they can search for it.
It won't be announced officially for a while, but best get in ASAP.

If anything call and book and then when it is announced, call back and get the rate modified.

I didn't really want to go back to the Hyatt next year... was more planning on heading to the Marriott...

Hilton Baby!

I stayed at the Marriott 4 years in a row- last year was my first time in the Hilton.

Not that I care to give Paris my hard earned money, but the service was good, the waits for the elevators wasn't outrageous, and the price was outstanding---

They put me up in a suite (bigger than yours there Derek S  ) for $99 a night! Only downside- there was no bed; they gave me a rollaway bed. But I didn't book a room for a huge kingsize bed- it was just a place to crash. :D

Hilton has been sold to another hotel chain, I forget the name.

No need to feel guilty at all there Kev ;)
$99 you say.......WOW!
I'm sorely tempted to switch now, but I doubt Cherie would like it.

Not sure if the $99 thing is available to everyone in advance. Here's what happened:

I booked a room in March for the con rate of $150 a night.

Get to the hotel- they tell me they have an option of putting me up in a suite for $99 a night (guess they overbooked). Essentially this was a meeting room with a bar, big tv, dinning area, living room with couches, and regular bathroom.

Only thing is it had no bed- and they provided me with a rollaway.

Cheapest rate I've ever had at D-Con! :)

If I'm remembering the order of the con hotels... last year I stayed at the Marriott. Elevators were slow, but no slower than my local cons. I liked it. So easy to just head upstairs 2 floors if I needed something.

Urg. I can never keep the hotels straight. Hyatt is the jam packed one... so the Hilton. Yeah I liked the Hilton.

Although everything is within close proximity of each other, the Marriott was definitely the place to be this year... No pesky rules against photography.

Exactly which field do you put that in? None of them are accepting it.

*EDIT* Scratch that. As far as I can see, Marriot is sold out.
