The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Oh and don't forget to buy some bottled water. I know not terribly far from the con hotel is a Publix supermarket. Much cheaper than paying $5 a bottle at the con itself.

Can you post where about to find this place please? :)

LOL, Exactly... I dunno. I know I find it whenever I leave to get back on the Interstate. So you might need someone with a car. Derek might know since he's from that area.

I don't want to sound like a snob but (at least in the UK) I don't drink neat tap water unless I absolutely have to.

No matter what anyone tells me that water has no taste I can always taste the treatment chemicals etc. in it.

true the taste varies from place to place, but here there are laws and regulations concerning tap water, and there seems to always be some new bottle problem that sneak through.

I'll probably bring a britta filter, and not spend a ton of $$ on water. I guess I'm just old, but I can't stand paying for water. I guess they will eventually charge us for air too

EDIT: I did check, since my info was out of date, and the newer federal regulations require bottled water to have the same guidlines as tap, and are allowed lest lead than tap.

There's a little convenience shop in the lower level of the food court/mall called La Grande Convenience Store.

The prices are pretty reasonable. I usually buy a few gallons of water to keep in my room and just fill my Nalgene bottle.

I am planning on bringing my Brita. I will run the hotel water thru it and see what it is like. No use buying water if I can use a filter I already have.

Thanks!

Many bottled water brands are municipal tap water. They buy it from their local utility at pennies to the thousand gallon, and sell it at ten cents an ounce. ;)

But granted, there are brands that do use pure spring water.

Harry...Brit to Brit.....its hot in Atlanta.
The heat wouldn't be what you are used to as its a humid muggy heat more than sun heat you get in the UK.

Drink plenty (they have water stations throughout, I carry my canteen on my armor) and you'll be fine.
And as its already been stated, the majority is inside where its cooler, but the sheer amount of sweaty bodies takes away from that.

Yep Heat and Humidity....my first time in USA was in Kentucky in September...
HELL, 9 IN THE MORNING, OUT OF THE FRESH CLIMATE AIR OF THE SLEEPING ROOM
Like Dom point it, drink, hydrate and eats (advice from a UK Army vet i ve met once wearing Body Armor and Gasmask.... )
What shock me the more was not the taste of the "purifying" water like Dassany or else brand but the price of a bottle
You could have a pack of 6 of 2 liters in FRANCE and not even EVIAN or VITTEL but decent one form a source
So one pouch will hold a canteen or a nalgene bottle
CAMELBACK anyone
Use UNDERARMOR like Heat t-shirt under ours could help also

I think LSKIV is talking about those thin body tight tshirts that are designed for use under body armour; they attempt to move sweat away from your body to keep you cool, kind of like Goretex for your skin. :)

..."

to sum-up it keep you a bit fresh while wearing body armor

Ah, gotcha - although I'm finding it hard to believe that wearing another layer is going to make me feel cooler!

The shirts aren't too expensive so I might try one.

[EDIT] Actually they ARE quite expensive (I was looking at a 2nd hand one on eBay), so I might have to miss out! ;)

I just thought about this thread, and the way everyone's making out and I must say my own perception of Atlanta is that it's some kind of furnace with folks dropping from heat-exhaustion all the time. I'm hoping it's not really that bad!

We do get humidity heat, but granted it's not on a par with southern states humidity.

Harry, i ve already got such heat problem with my health, 3 years ago i end on a Stretcher under the Kent Emergency Servicies Tent during a event in a 42° celcius in a sunny July, forcing to drink 2 liters of water and with packs of ice under my arms and in my under wear : EXHAUSTING, while wearing a BA and tactical assault coverall...never again
So have no advice to give BUT should be a good Investment
Damn' if it is issued today to soldier in Irak or Astan....and knowing how long any Army is slow to move for more comfortable gears....

Unfortunately they seem to be priced similarly but in British Pounds; about £20 for a T-shirt plus postage. :(

I personally wear the Under Armour Heatgear Tactical Full-T, USMC approved tee shirt (LINK) and I can vouch for its effectiveness. I wear other various UA pieces under my scout trooper and clone trooper costumes and they are a lifesaver. They may be expensive, but they do a terrific job at keeping you dry and comfy. Unlike cotton t-shirts, these things dry off incredibly fast and get the sweat away from your skin so you don't feel like a wet rag.

Okay Chryse, you talked me into it!

I can't seem to be able to buy one of the OD T-shirts if I select 'UK' on the site though, and I don't want to risk ordering one from the US as it's so close to D-Con it'll probably arrive while I'm away.

If anyone could order one for me and give it to me in Atlanta I'd be very grateful. I can PayPal straight away of course. PM or email me (preferred) if you fancy helping a sweaty Marine out! ;)
