The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I suspect that Shortbread is about the only typically Scots foodstuff, apart from Whisky, you'll successfully get past US Customs!

Cakes, biscuits and such are generally admissible:

Pretty much as I suspected then and I guess based on that list you can also count Dundee Cake in too! But Haggis and Smoked Salmon are definitely out!

That's a big negative on my end. You can't bring a FRH on an aircraft, unless it's still sealed in the original MRE wrapper.

Negative. It's not dehydrogenated. That's only done on the Cold Weather Rations. MREs have some moisture to them. Except for the bean burrito. For the love of god, don't eat the bean burrito.

Shortbread it is then.
I don't see anything against a bottle of Irn Bru.
Was thinking of bringing some tap water. Let you folks see how it tastes as good as any Evian.

You won't be allowed to have it in your carry-on unless bought at the airport after initial security, aka 'air-side'.

I doubt it's a good idea to have a bottle of carbonated liquid in your checked luggage, as they tend to get thrown around a lot and the pressure difference in the cargo hold as well could mean it explodes.

The former is a valid concern, but the latter is a non-true commonly-held bit of knowledge - the change in pressure happens but nowhere near bad enough to damage anything everyday - check out yoghurt pots etc in the in-flight meal; the lids bulge slightly but don't leak.

This is where my Aircraft geekiness comes into play.

The cargo/luggage hold of the Boeing 777 is pressurised. As thats what we'll be flying, the bottles will be at the same pressure as everything else on the plane. As G says, yoguhrts don't burst. It's all good.
And if I do bring Irn-Bru, it will be in my checked suitcase, in a bag and will be left standing still for several hours after we get to the hotel.

I'm looking for geeky correction here, but I was under the impression that every commercial jetliner from the last 30 years had a pressurised hold, hence the typical aluminium cylinder design for the whole "pressure-vessel"?

That too. But it's a permanent condition caused by being French.

Not having a Troon to mock and tease is less permanent. I HOPE!
