The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Rex- You're my favorite. I LOVE that picture! Thank you!

Also, some of the confusion might be because I'm in the picture. ;) I'm not in a HMCM outfit- just a steampunk mechanic thing. There was a third Maryland guy in the Steampunk Colonial Marine stuff. The three of them together looked great.

I have a set of pics up on my flickr account, some from pre-parade:

And here's some photoshop silliness of our Maryland Group:

you can't really see my weapon, uses a Thompson as a base, not quite a pulse rifle but you would get the idea
we did not get the armor or shoulder lamps finished. When that is done you may or may not get it, but we only had so much time. We hope to have more people and more stuff finished for Farpoint in February.

So for what we intended to do for this event - FAIL :(
but what we got finished seemed to go over well, we decided that someone needed to do military in the Steampunk area, and I always loved Space:1889

Cheers Rob
No FAIL at all, you all look really great (love to see more pics).
With your intended additions and finished pieces I promise I will definitely get it. 8)

I spoke at length with Tony (the tall sergeant in the pic with the ladies) at the fan table.

The three of them actually marched with us in our first D-Con outing in 2003:

Image

Unfortunately by the time I spoke with Tony on Sunday all of the paraphernalia we had with our web address was gone from the table. I told Tony the address and he wrote it down.

Tony was impressed with what he saw- and remembered marching with us way back then. He was also impressed with our 50+ strong numbers in the last two years at DCon.

For whatever reason all these years the Fyberdyne guys have never joined our site. I wish they would- I sort of know the story behind their armour and pulse rifles (they were built completely fom scratch using stills from the VHS tape of Aliens in the late 80s or early 90s)- but I would love to hear them tell the tale here! 8)

Thanks Heidi!!! That means ALOT to me! :D :D

I'd love to see more pics of your outfit, your mechanical arm was superb! The three of you were very inspiring, working on a Steampunk outfit as we speak!! I don't know if I'll be able to gear up a Colonial Marine version just yet, although I do intend to. First up is an Airship Pirate. I've many ideas for it that are just bursting outa me haid- But, we would definently be able to all group together- The Colonial Marines are tasked to put down the Airship Pirates!

Can't wait to see how the armor turns out!

Love the steampunk marines.

As for that group of guys who didn't really know about this site... I always find it interesting when there is a group of fans out there in a vacuum, not realizing there is a whole other, larger group of people doing the same stuff. It used to happen a lot more back in the old days, and people would go to fan conventions partly for the opportunity to meet people costumed from the same movie/show and say "you too?!"
But you'd think that wouldn't happen much anymore now that the internet has taken over. Yet, for whatever reason, some people just aren't online or simply don't do a simple google search.
So it's nice that there are still real conventions out there and not just virtual ones, so that people can feel like they are not alone in their obsessions.

Except for that one guy who likes that one stupid movie. He should feel alone. Because HIS obsession is weird. You know who I'm talking about.

one of our 501st members was jumped from behind by some punk trying to impress his friends, but he picked the black belt Tae kwan do (sp?) blackbelt instructor, I'm sure he was surprised when the "geek" flipped him and pinned him to the ground :D

I got a bit of that, some mundane chose to give me a hard time in my Phantom gear
so I stood up, looked down at him, and asked if he really wanted to have issues with me, he declined quickly, and scuttled away.... so sad

I'll correct you.

You're wrong.

Dead wrong.

Brian that's a pretty serious accusation to make without knowing if you are right or not.

But to clear things up- as I mentioned earlier the FyberDyne guys made their armour in the late 80s. According to the page on their website it was 1988 to be exact.

http://fyberdyne.com/

Click on "Gallery" then the "Marine headshot" in Group Projects.

According to Spat's website the first set of armour he made was in 1999 for Halloween:

http://www.spatcave.com/halloween99.htm

Hope this sheds some light on this.

Kevin

Another view of the parade (near the end on Baker St):

http://www.youtube.com/seanharryblogs#p ... P74G6nC-Dw

(We're about 2:30 in)

I'm actually impressed this guy knew we were the Colonial Marines. Not Space Marines or GI Joe etc. Although he makes it sound like we are all from the UK.

Kinda reminds of the "I thought you were all from Canada?" story back in '06.

-------------

Is it just me... or did we all expect to encounter a sea of Rorschachs this year? I saw a few at best; nothing like the "in" costume we expected it to be.

If anything what surprised me the most is the amount of Star Trek costumes I saw!

Actually the big thing this year appeared to be contact lenses. :?

And there really weren't any "incredible" costumes this year (Richie and Steve's Alien suits being the exception of course- those truly were amazing). Just didn't see many ZOMG costumes that totally blow you away. Guess the recession may have played a big part?

And I didn't see enough female skin this year!

I was surprised at the lack of Rorshachs and Michael Jackson Thrillers. I expected far more. There were some WOW! costumes though, it's just sooo damn hard to be in a position to see them all!

1) Lycans of Underworld. Huge Friday Night shoot- Vampires vs. Lycans. 4 armored vampire deathdealers, several other un-armored vampire deathdealers, leather armored Lycan "slaves" (per 3rd movie) and the stars- two big damn Werewolves! It was a show stopping shoot. Fantastic crowd reaction. 20+ in the shoot. Repeated on Sunday afternoon, with about 1/3rd of the "cast".

2) Sasquatch of Alpha Flight- a Canadian superhero team. I watched the WIP thread of this monster- close to 8' it was incredible. Sadly, the fans gave out, Allen could only stand being in it for 45 mins. Was out Sat. evening- I saw the pics, not in person.

3) BioWare or BioShock or something like that- the big ass boss w/ the little girl. It's a scary freeky sci-fi game. A ton of work went into it. All through the Con this was seen.

4) This maybe doesn't rate high enough, but it was cool, Steampunk Xmen! Prof. X's chair was fantastic!!! Steampunk Wolverine was waaaay cool too.
