The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I got their update flyer last week. I think they are doing it again this year.

But the impression I get is that it is a trial(?) membership? :?

I dunno.

I'll be there. Might even consider staying overnight if I can swing the cash. Pricey- but will beat driving back and forth.

$15 for the costumer's pass... you have to register in costume. As if that'll be an issue...

Kev, if you choose a night to stay, make it Friday. The night at the Karaoke bar is a screeeeam.

No can do as I will most likely be working. It's usually 2pm to 10:30 Fridays.

And in order to get the Saturday off (yes I have to work almost every Saturday), I'll definitely have to work Friday.

I'm set to join in the fun on Saturday ;)

Hopefully I'll be in uniform, registered and ready to go by 11am and I'll have to head out after the masquerade photo-ops.

Just to clarify, for the $15 costumer pass, you don't necessarily have to wear the costume at time of purchase, just be prepared to show it. Probably not a concern for our fandom but for others, if it's an obscure or not instantly recognizable outfit be prepared to bring along pics from the film (the computer room at their hotel is usually open and has internet and a printer - I used that for my Jayne Cobb workmanship entry (and later awards) at last year's masquerade.

Suffice to say I've got extensive knowledge of haw that con is run or know who to ask to get me an answer asap, if there's a question, lemme know.

What time Saturday night? Major consideration being the Masquerade and when mom wants to head out. After all the crap mom's been through (not including her house burning down) she's looking forward to a great time there this year stopping by on Sat. Yeah, I'm going to a con with mom, get over it :P

And me being there , costuming, hangin' with USCM/UACM folks is just my birthday gift to myself (I turn older that weekend ;) ).

If the dinner is between the sweep and masquerade, count me in.

For the anti-firearm attitude of Toronto's Mayor David Miller, I have decided to boycott the city of Toronto. Therefore Marines, I will not be attending this year's Polaris. More info here http://www.torontothebad.com/ I wish you a good time that weekend and I'll see you at DCon 08. Oh yes, I did email all those people on the list and and others like the president of Air Canada and the convention hotel.

Mike, I understand your outrage... but this sort of puts me and two other people in a tight position. Is this the only reason why you're not coming?

Nope Dom... this is the only reason. Last year's Toronto airport security harassment didn't help. I will contact you via phone to explain over the next few days. Business is super crazy right now.

Understood... but please keep in mind that both the airport and hotel are both in Mississauga... a totally distinct city with a different mayor. Hell, I'll ban Toronto too if it'll help your cause.

Mike- I can totally understand and accept your reasons and I will respect your wishes. I believe Dom is correct however that the hotel and definitely the airport are located within Missassauga's boundary.

I am saddened none the less by your not attending. It is one of the only two times I get to see you (and just about all of my AL Brothers and Sisters) out of the year. I have always neglected to come out to the Comic Cons in Alberta because of funds; I believe I should rethink this for next year.

Sid- I do hope you attend as well. Like I said- it's the only time of the year I get to see all you guys.

Ok...a big change. After doing some soul searching, google mapping and a good talk with Dom, I've decided to make Polaris 08 a go!
I fly into the Toronto/Mississauga airport mid afternoon on the Friday. See you at the hotel.

Mike

I managed to score a couple of hot chicks too. And they asked me if they could take a picture. 8)

Here's another pic of my Rambo-

Image

I was actually on the fence about bringing it as the bow might have been a no-no and the M60 a little too real... But after talking to security on Saturday they we're actually pretty cool about it! I understand that Sid put in a good word for me too (basically they knew ahead of time that I was going to bring something like this). Thanks Sid! :)

Still trying to decide if I'll bring this to D-Con. The gun will definitely stay home though.

You're welcome, my friends look out for me so I look out for my friends :)

Yes I was pleasantly surprised to read that the rules are a bit more relaxed now - it used to be that if it didn't have a holster to secure the weapon (pistol, sword, etc) into it wouldn't be allowed on the floor.

Kick ass costume too btw :) I'm still looking for pics of my outfit in the multicam, but I did get over a few technical issues and have a lesser quality video of the sweep uploading to youtube now.
