The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Okay if you've never watched "Near Dark" you need to do it now!

It was one of two big Vampire flicks of 1987 (the other being "The Lost Boys"). Easily the true horror film of the two (and just plain better). No campy teenage kids with sharp sticks hunting vampires in Near Dark.

So everyone who's seen this film (and perhaps even some who haven't) know that three of the stars were all in "Aliens" (Bill Paxton, Jenette Goldstein and Lance Henriksen). In fact this was the very next film they all made right after Aliens!

Last night I watched the movie again for the first time in probably 15 or 20 years! Here's a little tidbit that I had certainly forgotten about...

Check out the movie playing in the theater in the background! 8)

I had also forgotten just how good a job Bill Paxton did in this film! Hudson may have boasted about being a badass... But Severen (Paxton's character) truly was a badass!

A psychotic vampire who would slash people's throats with a smile, suck his own blood-soaked fingers and make the comment...

"Finger lickin' good!"

Now go watch it! Or watch it again! :D

Sure beats the hell out of "Twilight" for me!

Kevin

I've got the 2 DVD Special Edition version. :)

If Lance is at D*Con this year, I'm gonna get him to sign the box. 8)

Jenette looked well fit in the film.

Ha! That's really cool! Well spotted, Kevin.
Never noticed that before.

I must get that 2 disc edition that PVB has.
Kathryn Bigelow is a super film maker.
She was married to Cameron for a bit, around this time I think.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, "Stange Days", written by Cameron and directed by Bigelow is a great film, too.

Oh yea one of my favs of all time. I saw this in the huge Fox theater in Vegas. One of the biggest indoor theaters I've ever seen until it was destroyed way back in the 90s. I saw it during the day and there was maybe 10 people in the whole place.. but it didn't matter.. loved it!

Interesting the audio commentary of the DVD is HORRIBLE! All she (the director) does is tell you what is happening on screen. "now they are about to walk through the door, and.... THERE, they do."

I've heard commentaries like that - The Last Starfighter springs to mind. If I want to hear people talking about what's happening on screen I can go to the cinema*.

*satire ;)
