The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Steve O'Brien (palesteveo) and I were talking about this, and I was curious to see what everyone else came up with.

So the question is: what are some of your favorite old-school computer games?

Rules (so to speak):
PC games ONLY! No consoles.
I'm talking Doom-era type games, so nothing after say...2000, 2001? Earlier than that (Although I don't know the time-frame as well for PC games. Maybe that's too narrow of a time frame).

I look forward to some of your responses.

As for me, I love the original Doom (at least, what I get from the shareware version  ), the original Quake and Unreal games (mostly played deaathmatch with my stepdad, but oh well), and Starcraft. I don't normally like RTS's, but that is one exception.

You call "Doom-era" old-school?

Do you not remember the 70s and 80s? In fact, don't answer that! ;)

Well, considering I wasn't born until 1989, yes, I do consider that old-school... Compared to what I would play on my PS2  . And obviously, no I don't remember the 70's and 80's   . Wasn't around then, although some of the music from the 80's is really good. But that's a subject for another thread  .

I think these are 90s games;

Thief: The Dark Project
Thief: The Metal Age

The third one kinda killed the franchise off, though.

Beyond that, all my favourites are on Sinclair Spectrum (yes, the 48K with rubber keys. Also had a 128K +3 that ran Gunship 2000).
I still have some old magazines with covertapes, including teh issue where my letter was printed!!!! I was such a happy kiddie :D

Jungle Strike is my favourite cartridge era game. For floppies, Doom. Casette tapes, Treasure Island Dizzy and Space Invaders duke that out.

However, I will always have a soft spot for Bad Dudes vs. DragonNinja.

Man I forgot about this one- Shadow Warrior.

You play as Lo Wang- basically a ninja version of Duke Nukem. Best part of the game were Lo Wang's quotes:

I loved the shareware era...

My fave was Castle Wolfenstein 3D, I had all 6 chapters.

Commander Keen and Duke Nukem (original not 3D) were great!

Waxing nostalgic about computer games always lands on the Sierra games for me. I loved Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest (my favorite), Kings Quest, etc.

My fondest memory of Police Quest was trying to arrest a naked guy, and if you just try to put the cuffs on him he stabs you and you're like "WTF where did that knife come from?". I think he was at a park somewhere. Ahhh I love those games.

Ahhhh, those were the days.

Oh Privateer was fun! As was Wing Commander Academy... although I never played any of the other WC games.

Thinking of all the Sierra type games and rpgs I just remembered that I loved:

Buck Rogers (it was based on the early 90s TSR rpg, they made 2 video games)
The Bard's Tale (although the 2004 version was funnier)
D&D games (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, etc)
