The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Have any updated pictures? I haven't been over to the MMMovies forums lately.

I've been workign my @$$ off trying to get it ready in time. I've finished the steering assembly, and I only have to get two more pieces of plate steel. The construction of the 'body' is almost complete. The other big hurdles are getting/connecting a shifter cable and hooking up the gas and brake pedals. Then probably some rewiring to get the engine to start. Wish me luck...

So guess what? I call the Autorama people because I haven't heard anything from them yet. They tell me my application got sent to the wrong people and they might not have room for me. They said they have to turn away a lot of people's cars. So after all this, my vehicle might not even be allowed there. This sucks. They said they would call by Sunday at the latest to tell me one way or another. (shakes head)

Now, this might come off as me being a little full of myself... but if someone were to start a call-in campaign expressing disappointment at my vehicle possibly not being there... I'd be ok with it. I don't like resorting to this stuff, but I've been busting my ass on this project for the past month, I mean EVERY spare minute, trying to get it ready in time for the Autorama. I'm desperate, and I REALLY want to go. I'm sure if you looked up "Detroit Autorama" you'd find a contact number at the bottom of the page where you get a registration form. I'm just sayin'.

Not sure if I'm breaking any forum rules here; no worries if this gets deleted.

Yes, they would know exactly what you are talking about. Motor City, y'know?

But nevermind - I'M IN.

I hope to see some of you there! I don't think you'll have any problem not seeing me.

And, I've thought about the real APC thing. No way it could be the real size... I think the APC is much wider than a car. Longer, too. But, a van could be made into something like an APC. It already has the steering wheel where you want it, and lots of room for building the body. The killer would be the tires. I have no idea how you could even get some APC tires, and even if you could, how could you mate them to a van's wheels/rotors? If you could solve that it might be workable. The rest is just body work. It would be cool to have a bunch of working monitors set up in the rear... hmmm...

Just a thought...

Real tires would be the ideal, but if it came down to it couldn't the APC tires be faux tires? Not actually in contact with the ground (basically like a float)? They wouldn't spin, but could be any size we needed- and be large enough to "hide" the van's actual tires.

Aww cool.. glad you made it...

Hey speaking of an APC. Does anyone remember the VERY short lived TV series that had that aussie from the Battery commericals? Energizer maybe.

Anyway in that show they drove this crazy truck that kinda looked like an APC, I think it was suppose to be a low profile semi-truck or something. You sat in front of the front tires like an APC.

EDIT: damn that thing is hard to track down.

The show was called the Highwayman and it had a couple different trucks. One had a helicopter on top and the other was like an APC.

EDIT: HA, found it....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUqFSAPj ... re=related

Here is another at minute 6:30 they show it without the trailer, and at minute 6:50 there is actually a chase scene with it...

Nice! Well done mate!

Do you have any pics, perhaps taken outdoors under natural light?

I suppose the real question is... how does she drive? :)

Did you ever have any issues with the wheel mount durability after your initial problems when you first started?

I'm at work now; when I have a spare moment at home I'll post some more pics.

She handles fine, just like any other '84 pickup. The only differences come from the 33" tires and the middle wheels I added. The big tires require a slightly wider turn radius, and as the middle wheels are at the pivot point of the vehicle, they sometimes bind up a little on slow turns. No big deal. I drove it all over with the six wheels with no problem. Oh and yes, she sounds LOUD, and she sounds GOOD.

The crowd response was incredible. In a show with lots of pretty 'museum piece' cars and very few 'famous' cars, mine really stood out. Just about everyone commented "Mad Max!" as soon as they saw it. Lucky me, they played The Road Warrior on TV Saturday night, so all day Sunday people were like, "Hey, I saw that car in the movie last night!" Almost all of the 30+ crowd recognized what I had made, and if the younger people didn't recognize it, at least they thought it was cool. I had fun inviting kids to sit in the driver's seat and play with the PA system (which also allowed me to test how loud it was in a crowd; very cool.)

Sunday night after the show ended everyone was starting up their rides and heading out. The Machine was amongst the loudest. As I drove my way out I put on my hockey mask and commanded everyone to get out of my way or be crushed under my wheels, bow to Lord Humungus, etc. That got lots of laughs!

Next up for The Machine is the Motor City Comic Con and then the Woodward Dream Cruise. Maybe I'll see some of you there!

This is one of the coolest builds I have seen in a long long time. I would like to see more pics, if you have any, of the actual build up. Hell man I want a walk through on how I can build my own.

NICE WORK!!!!
