The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Occasionally, I still do some illustration and design work for Loaded magazine. Loaded is the title that
kick-started the mens mag boom in the early 90's.

JC, their Art Editor had asked me if I would do a shoot for them in the Alien suit, to which I replied
"No, but I know a man that would LUURRVVE to!" in which case I could then film the shoot for my documentary.

Originally this was going to be a cover shoot with a naked girl but unfortunately that didn't pan out.
So what we did in the end was a smaller affair that will appear in a couple of pics inside.
The studio photos were taken by Alan McFadden who has shot the Rolling Stones and many others.
Art directed by JC, they were going for a look similar to the Aliens door poster by the Skotak brothers.

I can't post the shoot pics until after the mag comes out in a coupla months time, but here are some
from the studio I can post, plus a few from "When Loaded met Abe T. Alien".

Thanks to Gareth for all his hard work, as usual.
Abe went down a storm!!

Looks great guys!

I love the 'Dr. Who' style lighting too with amber from one side and blue from the other. Nice one! :)

Someone shot the Rolling Stones??!!! :P

Looks great, guys!!
The fella in the last shot actually looks like he just had a mishap!!

Can you 'exclusively reveal' what the article is about, yet? Or is that QT until the mag is issued?

I'm not a very artistic person myself, but this is one of the few lighting styles I've personally noticed. I've seen it done with white & electric blue before, one from each side and it does look amazing!!

I even tried to use it once or twice during my O level art exams.

It's a whole issue all about ABE! ;)

He wishes! Until the mag comes out, we're sworn to secrecy. However, after it does we'll have loads more lovely pics to post! :)

The orange/blue lighting was inspired by an image of the Alien door poster that ADC provided to them as reference.

I think it'll be in the shops three weeks from now.
I should get a pdf of the article any day now and I'll post it as soon as they let me.
Unless of course, G mugs the postman on his way to my front door.

I love the pic of the one guy sitting at his desk with Abe standing behind him. He's got that expression of "there's something big, bad, and nasty behind me, isn't there?".

That's the one, Joe. Though the website and mag cover display semi naked girls,
editorially the mag itself is more of a comedy affair.

A few years ago the suits decided that magazine covers with girls sell more and so it
became policy to always have a woman on the front. The website is not reflective of the mag at all,
for the same reason. Shame really, as the team that actually work on the magazine
don't get any say in that policy.

The mag ran for years before it even featured a girl on the cover.
Another sign of our evolving 'dumbed down' society.
And, there has to be a reason for the suits upstairs to justify their jobs.

I'll post the feature in the next coupla weeks, hopefully.

Actually they do that on Dr. Who as well, it's usually amber & blue for more down-paced or poignant scenes, and the white and steel blue for when the action picks up.

I don't usually post work up until it's complete, but I thought I'd give
you a nosey on this one because it kind of wraps this thread.

This is the Loaded photo shoot that forms a scene in my documentary,
"Alien Encounters: Superior Fan Power Since 1986", along with last
years DCon and the Alien Encounter, etc.

The point of the magazine photographing the Alien was for the
novelty that it will be the first magazine sent in to space next month.
So I thought it would be a nice piece for the doc.

There is a 'watch in higher quality' link directly under the video on the right hand side,
please click that as it looks a bit better.
Crappy quality still though so sit back a bit to view. Hate youtube quality!

Sound still needs some work, levels etc.

HA awesome! See I side with the Dad, Alien all the way.. Love Aliens to death but I will always love the first film more.

EDIT: love the suit but I have to ask, is the head slightly undersized? I only ask because I am in the planning stages of building an Alien.

very nice work , and its funny that is exactly how i would have described why i liked the movie when i first watched it .movie sound effects are a huge part of the experiance .like for instance the movie action jackson with carl weathers ,probably has the best striking (ie punched ) sound effects ever, and of course the pr and smartgun sound ,is the best ever ,folowed closely by judge dredds lawgiver sound effects.

Slightly undersized? The whole costume is tiny. Most of the parts are 3rd (or more?) gen recasts of a SU suit, AFAIK.

I'm also 3-6 inches taller than most of the Alien performers in Aliens.

You still look/act bloody great in that suit though, especially so in that photoshoot. 8)
