The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I wonder if they'll do a "copy cat" kind of thing, using an actor we've seen before. It's not unprecedented as we've seen other time lords choose the face the ended up with.

Sadly, this happened with the hot Romana 1 ending up with the annoying as hell Romana 2. :(

Have any eps other than the Christmas special aired yet? What about Torchwood? Have they started airing?

Yes Harry the Doctor has been played by a man for 40 years, then come out and change sex... if they did that it would only be done to try to boost ratings.

If they want a female Time lord while not just write one in for a story.... after all when they brought back Dr who it was said he was the last time lord....... then they bring back the Master...

How can he be the last one?
Surely someone can go back in time and rescue the others?

Some Who is fun, but it's all a bit paradoxical and confoozin'

I have to agree with Glenn. I know a lot of women who support the idea of a female Doctor, on the premise of having a strong female role model.

Frankly, I think the idea sucks. His companions have always been strong women, and why mess with a successful formula?

I'm hoping for a slightly older portrayal of the Doctor and younger male and female companions.

I've always liked the 'avuncular / superior alien' type relationships the Doctor has had with his companions.

Didn't really care for them trying to get into his Time Lord pyama's every five seconds!

That's why I found Catherine Tate such a breath of fresh air, that and the fact she is an amazingly good actress.

Let the younger companions do all the 'relationship'stuff and get into to trouble, etc, etc!

Leave the the Doctor do the 'Doctor-ish' type stuff!

Looking forward to hearing who it is.

I'm not really worried about their choice, so far the production team hasn't dropped a ball on the new series of Dr Who, can't see them starting now.

I believe that it was set down early in the series that the Doctor could go pretty much anywhere in time, just not back in the Time Lords own "pre-time" thus preventing a paradox.

But then again, DW is rife with paradox... so anything is possible now that the Time Lord home world is gone.

I have to agree. The whole 'Rose Romance' thing sort of annoyed me.

I've never really been a big follower of "Dr Who." Thats not to say I don't like it, I enjoy watching it whenever I catch an episode on T.V, just have never been the type to set the Tivo if I am going to miss an episode. Now when I first came to this topic and saw the current "Doctor" is leaving I thought to myself David Tennant hasn't been the doctor for very long. Well apparently he's be it for five years, and apparently I havn't been paying attention enough. Either that or the Sci-Fi channel just hasn't been airing it very long. Anyway my question is every "Doctor" the same character, just played by a different actor, or is every "Doctor" a different character that assumes the role when the previous one steps down/dies/ect?

The Doctor changes with every regeneration though they all share common traits. I always think of it like James Bond, it's more of a title/code name than just one single person.

I'm really excited about this though. I was never a Who fan and only saw parts of Eccleston's series. I didn't get into Tennant's Who until the middle of last year so I'm still playing catch up.

I'm not bothered that Tennant is leaving as it gives us the opportunity to see him do other things (like Hamlet).

I would really like to see Paterson Joseph get the part. He's been very good in Survivors and I think he could bring an interesting spin to Doctor Who.

In my opinion as long as an actor/actress is able to portray the character roll well I could care less what sex/race they are.
Like I said before I've never been a huge fan of Dr Who, but
if they were to select a woman for the part I think Tilda Swinton
would be an excellant choice!!!!

ARRRRGH!

Ok. I'll sit and wait nicely until SciFi Channel decides to show it... probably in March if that early.

And we did have Female Doctors. Just... from the Comic Relief, so not canon. But darn funny!

I couldn't agree more, I think he'd be great. :)

He has been in Dr Who before, but that didn't stop Colin Baker doing it.

NOTE TO SELF:

Must not pass judgement until the new series starts in 2010....

...but someone was smoking something when they were casting. :?

Only time will tell. That said, I trust Steven Moffat's judgement and I think he cares enough about the programme to have thought through the choice carefully.

New series of Torchwood airs in March/April. It's a five part series; one story shown over the course of a week.
