NEW YORK (AP) — Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry, an actress who appeared in numerous "Star Trek" TV shows and movies, died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif., her representative said.

At Roddenberry's side were family friends and her only son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991.

Her romance with Roddenberry earned her the title "The First Lady of Star Trek." A fixture in the "Star Trek" franchise, her roles included Nurse Christine Chapel in the original "Star Trek," Lwaxana Troi in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every spin-off of the 1966 cult series. She recently reprised the voice role in the upcoming "Star Trek" film directed by J.J. Abrams.

This actually struck a chord with me. Hearing about any well known actor's passing sucks- this has truly sadden me.

Such a great voice - I always hoped she'd replace the current faltering monotone you get when a PC 'talks' to you. Hers was the computer voice of the future!!

Still can't believe her performance as L'waxanna against Patrick Stewart. Only she could unsettle Picard so well

Every time I read this I am saddened even further. Another Icon gone. I don't think there should ever be another voice for the "computer." It just wont be the same.

Well she will live on in Trek reruns and on Babylon 5. At least she had finished recording the Enterprise voice for the upcoming movie.

Yes a great shame she has passed. A great character actress.
And quite right about the way only she could unsettle Picard. Great comedy moments.
Very pleased JJ used her and I hope she completed all her parts.

Man, I love the Trek.
