Just seen this today, what a surprise.

Though it`ll take a few years to be implimented throughout the services. In some ways looks like someone had a fancy for the old British 4 Colour "Omani" DPM.

The MoD must be fed up with everyone wearing British Temperate DPM.

Is it just me, or are squaddies starting to look more and more like cartoon characters as kit 'improves'? :p

zuzus,
The L85A2-AG36 GL combo came into service around 2003/4 mate.
The L85A2 RIS though is currently a trial piece. So our lads can start being like the Yank`s & having everything inc the Kitchensink hanging off the weapon platform ;) Though have to say the SUSAT does need replacing now.

Allan,
I hear you mate. Must admit I`m surprised to see an old "Omani" DPM come back into service, even if remodelled. Must have found a HUGE stockpile in Iraq when we sold them all in the MidEast....LOL

Though one good thing is the Plate armour is Twice the size to the current plate. So better protection for our troops.
Actually looks like someone in the MoD listerns.

Don't see why they don't just dump £12000 or whatever it is per set and get everyone in the UK forces Dragonskin armour!

Surely the politicians, footballers and bankers wont mind missing out on a few weeks pay to cover the costs. :)

It's not an all-round, multipurpose pattern, only a replacement for DCC (Desert Combat Clothing).
Lovely looking pattern though it is, it wouldn't be much use in a temperate or jungle environment.
Temperate CS95 will still remain.

I'm pleased to hear we're getting rid of the Mk3 Kevlar helmet.
It's not a particularly wonderful helmet design. I have a Dutch helmet which is of very similar pattern to the US PASGT. They are manufactured in Spain and are in service with several European forces. It's far better than our helmets.
They only dowside is that because of the "all around" headband suspension and lack of side space it means that ear defenders cannot be worn with it, and it's not easily compatible with our field telephones, radio headsets etc. That is one real bonus the Mk3 has going for it.
Looks like this new helmet is a good mix of the two.

The L85A2 is a good weapon. Currently there are few fitted with the UGL. There are no plans at this time to make the UGL a standard issue on the Individual Weapon.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the SUSAT, it's a good sight. I think the move to ACOG is simply change for change's sake.
Looking at the way it's fitted I can't see that it will be particularly stable in the field. We'll see how it proves itself but I anticipate a revision to the attachment following shortly.

I quite liked the old splat-hats... Wouldn't stop a 9millie, but they were quite comfortable.

And yeah, the L85A2 and SUSATs are good kit; our guys could be using a lot worse weapons kit than what they've got currently.

I'd be willing to put money on the assertion that only people who are either trying to sell weapons to the Army or who have never used an L85 are the people who bash it. :)
