The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well looks like the bloody techheads have got all the bugs sorted & this Saturday they flick the switch on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
http://www.virginmedia.com/digital/scie ... src=vmhpld

For the Techheads a little more spec reading http://lhc.web.cern.ch/lhc/

So in some ways it`s lucky our Politicians & Banks have crippled us all,as the scientists are now coming to sweep up the mess.

So rememeber this Saturday,Wear you Armour (all day) + Pulse & prep to go out with a Bang.
If it doesn`t go BANG,well you`ll like mighty fine there in your Kit :D

Worse case, see you on the longboat taking us to VALHALLA.

I'm looking forward to it. I loved the 1970s TV series Time Tunnel. :D

I love the theories around this one. All the scaremongering press reports of "there's a tiny possibility that black holes will be created... but they'll be tiny and won't last long... or they'll obliterate the world as we know it". All very reassuring! Essentially they should just come out and say - "We're not entirely sure what's going to happen but we've got a good idea :P

Well yea nothing like a bit of Dramatics when doing something (brings more to the coffer jar & Media attention).

You imagine with all the 24hr media groups out there, bound to have some stationed outside where this will take place, waiting to capture......Something & alas they`ll have it as LIVE FEED till they flick the switch.

It`s like the am on the BBC breakfast show. A Doc saying a child died from the measals & thus an epidemic is coming (due to not all children having MMR). Sorry when I was a child (on the cold wet shores Of Vikingland),I & all my siblings had the measals & none died.
I`s all about Shock tactics to make ppl have cocktails of meds run through their veins.

Anyway back on topic,If it goes BANG on Sat,I`m going to KILL someone (in the afterworld that is) as I`ve only JUST got back online & will NOT be a HAPPY Viking.
What some will do to stop me from getting online. Just thankfull I`m not paranoid.

I've been interested in this for a long time, and over the last week I've been seeing pictures appearing on websites and there was a countdown site that was due to hit 0:00:00 at midnight tonight, but that's been taken down sometime today. It seems that they have re-scheduled the test for the weekend, with the actual thing running properly on 10th Sept.

Well, assuming the test goes well, we still have over a month until the end of the world :D

I'll probably be watching the live webcam feed, if the time is sensible.

It kind of reminds me of that Classic trek episode. You know when the enterprise is being chased by an ice cream cone... But in a rastafarian way.

Yeah so they were talking about this on the radio today-

That *IF* a black hole is created that will destroy the World- we won't really see it's effects until a few years from now...

At which time there will be a bright light coming from the center of the ocean which scientists will be baffled to explain (yes this is exactly what they said on the radio).

Then the World implodes.

See you next D-Con! :D 8)

Well Scientists are just like lawyers really. Fumbling around within their own communities shafting the rest of civiliation.

In all seriousness, saw they rescheduled to switch it on today.

Well just have to see if A-it works,B-it does anything,C-What happens.

Worse case instant death for us all, almost worse case,as Kevin say`s in the near future we`ll ALL Dead or Optimistically they find a new power source or dimension gate.
Then Chthulu will just devour us all :(

Well, were all still here so I guess the scientists were right.

Did you hear that some of them had been receiving death threats? Most probably from fantasists who a) know nothing about science and; b) fear that any voyage of discovery will interfere with their own based-in-fiction agenda

You're a little late; it was working nearly two hours ago.

All they've done so far is switch the thing on and fire a beam of protons around the tunnel in one direction.

The first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on 21 October 2008.

Well playing with my 1year old didn`t get to see the news. Knew it was today anyway.

So the switch works, now we sit back & enjoy the calm before the storm.

Oh PP apparently also I believe there`s also legal action being pursued against the scientists for actually doing this
