The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey everyone.

I'm not a sappy person by nature. I just kind of deal with stuff.

Lately, however, things with my family have been extremely difficult with hospitalizations, etc.

Then tonight, my father had a stroke. We don't know how he's going to be and he has facial paralysis and quite frankly, it's heartbreaking to witness.

He's my hero. I'm a cop because my dad was one and I was a Marine because he told me he believed in me enough.

I owe this man so much more than I can EVER hope to repay and... just any positive thoughts would be great. Can't hurt, anyways.

Thanks for taking time during a Holiday to read this...

Regards,
-Derek

Very sorry to hear about your father and the family issues.

Thoughts and prayers are with you and him for a speedy recovery.
My god mothers husband (family friend) has had about 3 strokes over the last 10 years....he's up and about and still taking his cars apart.
He's always has parts left over too for some reason.

Keep us posted :)

Sorry to hear that, Derek. Likewise I hope he has a speedy and comfortable recovery.

But I think your respect for your father does him proud.
And does you proud, for that matter.

Best wishes.

I know where you're coming from bro. My dad was everything for me. It's damn tough what you're facing bro, there's not alot anything I can say to make it better either my friend. You have to be strong, stronger than you've ever been.

It's life changing. I lost my dad to severe brain cancer in a 2 month period. Went from healthy to bam! Gone. Lost my mom 1 1/2 years later to ovarian cancer.

Fucking sucks.

Be strong for your dad. Watch movies with him, tell old stories, share past experiences you shared together.

Do whatever you have to do my friend. Be there for him. I know you can do it.

Thanks everyone... I appreciate the well-wishes.

We're told he should recover okay, though no one can say for sure if the paralysis will fade or what. He's trying to keep in good spirits but I can tell he's RAGING inside... he's a strong man and always has been, so to be struck by something this insidious is, well... it's pissing him off to no end.

Derek,
You're a tough SOB and a chip off the ol' block. I'm sure your dad will get through this challenge, especially with you by his side. Keep us updated.

I've had a few people inquire as to the status of my father, and for that, thank you. Figured I'd post an update here.

We were told it was a brainstem stroke; much more rare, and harder to survive. Apparently he came through this extremely well-off, as he only has some weakening of the left side of his body, but facial paralysis on both sides of his face with difficulty forming words and speaking.

This, of course, pisses him off to no end!

But the doctors have stated brainstem strokes are usually much more devestating... so we're counting our blessings. We're hoping he'll regain most of his speech ability and maybe the paralysis will wear off in time.

Again, thanks for the inquiries and well-wishes.

I'm glad your father is at least doing well for the stroke type that he had. Have they given you any prognosis on rehabilitation for his speech, or is everything wait and see? Either way, you're in my thoughts.
