The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Err...

Has anyone seen it yet?

I really don't want to rent it if it's absolute garbage... And if it's half decent I'll buy it to save the rental cost.

I would say that story wise it's actually worse than SST2, but the production values are four times higher and it shows... excluding the CGI, which was seemingly invested far more in the Marauder suits than the bugs.

My one real plus is the girl who plays "Holy Little" - the actress does superbly and is probably the only person in the film you get the suspension of reality with - you actually believe she is who she is.

I have lots of criticisms, but I'm seemingly one of three people on the internet who can make a reasoned and rational defence of SST2 on the entire internet whilst everyone else hates on it (and I can totally accept why), which means my arguments are probably slightly pointless in the comparison.

In short, I'd say SST3 is worth the watch, but it is far from good.

First time I saw the trailer I thought, "Wow, a SST Fan Film actually got Rico to do a cameo!"

I've seen better CGI work in Jedi House!

There was just enough of that in SST2 to make me keep my eyes open.

Well I've seen it and the part about the singing Sky Marshall was F'en STUPID. The religion part wasn't a half bad storyline ( the aliens films eventually dabbled in it remember) The CGI was goofy but so what. It wasn't to horribly bad, and yes there were some nude chicks in it about 3/4s of the way through the film.

In terms of core story:

SST2 - good core story and character designs which, while admittedly rather clichéd, were a staple of the sci-fi/horror genre and as such are somewhat timeless. Let down by bad execution.

SST3 - series of rather poor plot elements and character designs with background plot elements that were clearly supposed to be undertones brought to the fore in a really, REALLY sloppy and unobvious way.

SST2 was actually well written, just really let down. There was nothing particularly well written about SST3 because Verhoeven wasn't there to make those obvious undertones more subtle and actual satire. I think we can all agree that Neumeier really only shines when he's working alongside Paul Verhoeven in a directing role.

Even Rico doesn't fit in in the movie. You watch what's going on and you never really think "ahh, Colonel Rico, it's like you never left!". You never really believe he's this gritty war hero. He just, well, is. His performance is far superior to most in the film though, especially Blalock, who simply took on a tough girl persona and tried to carry it through the film as though "being a bitch" is a character. It really, really isn't unfortunately. And don't even get me started on Dix Hauser and Sky Marshall Anoke. Good God.

At least the Fed Net stuff was well done this time around. The Fed Net stuff is core to the satire and they got the presentation down, unlike in SST2. So that, Holly Little, the return of real guns for the Moritas... and oh yes, naked women. Quite a few of them in fact by ratio of men to women. Those would be my highlights of the film. Unfortunately, everything else came over as *incredibly* weak for me, especially the religion plot/sub-plot, which was incredibly ham-fisted.

'twas a joke in regards to my commenting on how bad the new SST movie is and our discussions on my credibility for rating performances :)

Bought it. Liked it better than SST2. Had issues with the HAMMER handed religion thing, but the end of the film worked for me.

Had issues with the over the top civillian swinging action.

About the bug CG: WTF? They flinch when hit, but don't show any damage. Weak.

Overall liked it and would have paid to see it on the big screen.

Just finished watching it. Not brilliant. Most people phoned in their performances with the exception of the flight attendant.

I liked her character and was hoping to see her live through it. (no Spoilers:))

The subtext wasn't entirely subtle either..:)

Didn't not like it. The religion thing, the protesting thing, the hanging thing, the friggin' singing sky marshall thing  were too much.

Dix Hauser- ho-hum. Pretty much a dickhead.

The morita replacement- well, too damn big and awkward, but at least it could kill bugs easier. That said, it looks crappy as hell.

Fun seeing a bunch of SST guys running around shooting bugs...SST MP's...

A better sequel than #2, it's not lame, it's not great, but it's SST.

And,it's got some hot naked chicks in it!

Soooooo, not too bad at all

If there was more action I'd definately say a beer and popcorn film.

Or pull the political subtext. But not with both.
