The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So I want to start planing now for next year.. Is it too early?
I have some questions..

Do we run a club table? (Shifts?)
What hotel should I look into for a room?
It is Atlanta right? Not Arkansa

Actually, sort of off-topic... but speaking of the table, I'd like to help out and man it for a bit during the run of the con so.... who do I get in touch with?

Doc- we do have a fan table.

In the past we have tried to come up with a shift roster for manning it- but nobody signs up.

Bottom line is we do need volunteers to man the table in turns. The table must be manned at all times that the convention is running (technically 10am-8pm) or we will receive a warning from the convention staff.

We usually hang out by the table as it is our rallying point... It's those crucial times when everyone troddles off to do something either individually ("I'm going to check out the Dealers' Room") or as a group (Colony Sweep, lunch, etc) that we need someone (preferably a pair so they don't get lonely  ) to watch the table. We would also prefer that whoever watches the table be in USCM gear of somekind (but this is not critical).

I suppose this is one of the reasons behind Dom's "Operations" merit ribbon- bit of incentive to put in some "table time".

It would be great to have a chart of times/volunteers- but history has shown everyone to be excited about seeing the convention and not being "stuck at the table".

Personally I'm going to be at the table a lot more this year. I've seen all the convention I need to over the last 5 years and Sunday is my "other" costume day.

Anyway...

As for hotels- The main host hotels are the Hyatt, Marriott, and Hilton. The Sheraton hotel has officially become the overflow hotel (my understanding is that it will host bits of the convention this year as well).

My personal preferrence as to which hotel to stay in, Marriott first, Hilton second Hyatt last. Sheraton only if need be.

And yes it's Altlanta Georgia.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks Sarge...
Is the table staffed during the parade?

I wish I could go this year, but it's just not going to happen. My goal is to be able to make it a vacation next year and drive down. Then there's no issue of my gear being at the mercy of the airport security and baggage handlers.
By next year I will have BDUs, PR, MT, Class C, and hopefully Armor.

During the parade is the one time the table doesn't have to be manned.

I know the Sheraton is hosting the Trek Track stuff.

Now which hotel to stay at? I stayed at the Hilton back in 2005. You can actually use the elevators to get to your room!

Is there such a thing as planning too early? I already have my hotel booked for next year. I stayed at the Hyatt in 2006, and I prefer the Hilton. Can't say anything for the Mariott

NEVER!

That's why they have the really cheap presale prices on con tickets while you're waiting in line to pick up this year's ticket...

And the major "party" groups always try to get the same block of rooms, etc.

Not anymore.

I was at the Hilton last year. Not quite as bad as the Hyatt or Marriott... but the elevator waits are getting bad there too.

You might be the sole UKCM there, as most of us can hardly afford to go this year.

Which is why I made coming out to D*C a priority this year. This no doubt will be the biggest gathering of Colonial Marines in one place, right? I would have to be insane to miss this. Besides, I do owe Troon and Gar at least one drink. :)

Tip: It's sometimes faster to go all the way up and then back down to the lobby. Try pressing the "UP" button and pick the lower floor when you get in.

It's 'cuz Uncle Dom loves ya!

There were stories of Hyatt security last year waiting at the top floor for people doing this and forcing them to get off the elevator and have to walk all the way back down to the first floor... or something like that.

I know Hyatt security was "rationing" the elevators. Telling people they couldn't ride, etc.

One piece of advise....get your D*Con badge and hotel booked as soon as we post 'we've returned.'

The rooms are going earlier and earlier so get in quick!

Roger that... I will have to look up the Hilton and D-con soon. That would help by paying for the pass and putting a deposit down on the room.
