I've been working on replacing my lost airsoft gear so I can get back into playing as soon as possible, and eBay has been a great resource for that so far. One of the goodies I found was a Tokyo Marui Steyr AUG-A2 (the black civilian version) with internal upgrades, a Phantom silencer kit, and accessories. I watched the item for a few days, and after there were no other bids I went ahead and placed my own. Someone tried to snipe me at 30 seconds left on the item, of course, but I was watching and wasn't having any of THAT.
I paid up immediately after winning the item, as usual. Pretty standard eBay experience - the funny part is the correspondence with the seller afterwards:
"Thank you for buying my airsoft gun and for paying in such a timely manner. I will have it in the mail and on it's way as soon as possible."
"No prob - I lost my AUG in an apartment fire, and this looked like just the thing to replace it. Someone tried to snipe the auction out from under me, too. Lucky you I guess, haha, it was going for $350 until Asshole #1 decided to intervene, lol!"
"Yeah, he made the price jump $100. Then again, it wouldn't be
much of an auction with one bidder, LOL. I'm sorry to hear about
your fire, so good luck getting back on your feet."
Skip forward a day or two. Here's the part where it gets amusing:
"The Shipping ended up costing significantly more than I expected: $78.55 dollars for packaging and shipping. I'm sorry I misjudged shipping costs, but this is a big deficit and it would be great if you sent me the money for it. If you need to see the receipt, I can email it to you."
Did he... Did he just tell me he wants ME to pay for the extra shipping HE failed to calculate for? Oh, this is too good! At this point I choose to politely tell him to go pound sand... I mean, there's no reason we can't be civil, right?
"I'm sorry, but I bid on the item based on the price and shipping *you* set. I hate to say "tough nuggets," but I'm already paying $*** plus shipping as is."
And, his response... the comedy continues.
"Alright, that's fair. With that said, this will still influence my review."
So now he's threatening me with negative feedback, which gave me a bit of a chuckle. I thanked him for the tracking number which he sent shortly after, and politely pointed out that as long as he was civil with his feedback, I would see no reason to mention him asking me for more money after I paid for the item, in mine.
I love eBay, lol.
